Yes, the need for education is a good point. And no doubt there would have to be some lobbying process to even get some kind of bill [directed at minors] of the ground.

That is why I am only advocating something that has a good chance of near all parties supporting it [protection of minors]. The last thing you really want is the whole issue to blow up and have a hostile polarization between the parties, which would happen if you directed it at adults [and actually, I kind of agree that adults can make their own decisions... because they are adults. It is where we are at politically/ culturally anyway. Here, the emphasis would be on education, or even a counter-culture].

Once a law is in place to restrict minors from easy access to porn, then the larger debate might even begin to develop. Though that debate, from the pragmatic and political perspective, is fraught with difficulty given the logic of liberalism. The US is a country built on the principles of individual rights, so any attempt to ban, censor, or heavily restrict pornography in general [for adults] is bound to fail. You may as well tell Americans to give up guns.

    Yes, I agree.

    But change that proposition to:

"The majority of the population refuses to even believe that porn is at all damaging to children, so there's no way enough people are going to get on board..."

... and you have a different story. I think most people would disagree with the proposition once it focuses only on minors. All that's required is a good majority in a referendum.

That's not good enough today due to the nature of technology. Not to mention both parents are more than often working full time... and reliant on the state to educate their children into becoming good productive members of society.

So what's the answer? 1984 in reality?

Wot? A little regulation, and we run around shouting '1984'? :D

Why not be a little more imaginative, and envisage a society without the backbone for any regulation at all. What kind of dystopia would that look like? Plenty of sci-fi movies to choose from I guess.

I'd say it would be utter private freedom at the complete price of a public technological order. The body would be controlled, the mind utterly free.... or vacuous.

As I've said before my ED is more medication than porn induced. I have gone months without it before and never missed it. I stay away due to the ED. I think I'm the opposite of many on these forums. My parents were not strict at all. I never had a curvew, was grounded, overly religious, etc. They set guidelines and modeled behavior. It worked out pretty well.

My question is where do you draw the line? How are you defining porn?

Great to hear you had a good upbringing! How would you define it? I'd define it as explicit material aimed at sexual arousal.

  10. Yeah, you're here with us so I'm sure it worked out dandy. You're not the opposite of any of us, Bumble. Welcome to the Island of Misfit Toys.

  11. I agree with everything you're saying in theory, Buzz, but in practice, I'm still not on board. But to each his own.

Do I consider Maxim porn? No Playboy? No? Hustler? Yes. Erotica to me is different from porn. Porn to me is actually seeing penetration in graphic detail. Nudity alone isn't porn. Would I let a 13 year old see 50 shades of Grey? No. Porn to me also has a more violent edge so I'd be put BDSM etc into the porn category. Voyeurism (non consenting) too. Porn to me is carnal with an edge vs erotica which is more sensual.

  14. Its all driven by money. Same goes for porn, the actresses/actors you see aren't in the porn business because they enjoy it. They are in it for money and only money. And people who watch it are their expedient.

Its all about the risk, in majority of cases the higher the risks chances are that profit will be higher. But that draws a lot of negative stuff to it. If porn ever becomes illegal, it would actually be even easier to reach out to worse forms of pornography than it is now, such as child pornography for example. All of that would spin great money. Because of it risk.

  15. So, following your logic, legalizing child pornography would reduce its consumption ?

  16. I never said that, i said that if porn in general becomes illegal, it would be easier for people to get through child pornography, as it would basically "fit in the same basket of criminalization"

Which means we would end up in far worse problem.

It's a people choice, yes it feels good when you're into it but things should go into moderation and too much will cause danger. This applies to all Porn, Drugs, Cigarette, Alchohol.
Banning isn't the real solution here for these people who are addicted will keep looking for it, Producers of porn Films and Manufacturer of Silent killer product should be shut down.

The problem is the way our minds are wired today. We have been habituated to think in absolutes and binary opposites, so porn is either to be legal or illegal in the abstract [the heritage of puritanism... we think in absolute terms/ rationalism]. However, legislators should be prudentially asking in which particular situations it is legal and illegal.

So rightly, liberal [we are all liberals in the classic sense] legislators find child pornography illegal, and it becomes the practical exception to the rule. Good! If only they can extend their concern for children to children's [viewing] exposure to pornography itself... that would be even better!

What's stopping such an obvious need for regulation. I'd say consumer ideology and business interests. I'd say they'd have to be some sort of mass movement at the grass roots level to get something done. This is always the way forward with an 'establishment'.

I am curious as to why Nofap, as an organization, is not more politically involved and interested in such a movement? Is it not concerned with public welfare and the collective good? Is it too individualistic? The reality is real change is often social change... perhaps part of the problem is we all get to hung up on ourselves most of the time. I suspect the real problem with today is that we are all too self-obsessed. We should be thinking about the next generation... as Burke said, 'the real social contract is between the past the living and the future'.

There can't be levels of criminality? Like during prohibition you could make your own alcohol and drink at home.

No porn = everyone turning into mad pedos.

You figure without all the scat and other vile crap on the internet it would be able to hide better, or people not being sex obsessed from being drowned in porn there would be less degeneracy? There already is the mommy son role play stuff which should be illegal but for whatever reason, it's on the main stream sites.

With the acceptance of ever more degeneracy and vile crap supposedly because it will get worse if anyone stops eventually the illegal stuff won't be illegal anymore it will be allowed and eventually accepted.

  20. Can you explain?
