Yesterday I had a rotten day. Then later in the evening I had an overwhelming temptation and did not handle it very well. Every time I had a tempting thought I prayed. But my temptation did not decrease. I watched a little TV and started to slip up the first chance I got. I immediately knew that I needed to put on something squeaky clean or I would fall for sure. I put on NCIS which is an old network show they replay on Netflix. It has no nudity and virtually no smut on it. That did help and somehow I made it and went to bed.

This morning I woke up and realized where I went wrong. I was bringing a knife to a gunfight. Satan was coming hard for me and I was not ready. Then I realized that I have written 2 articles in the last two weeks about how to fight temptation. Both articles were about as forgotten as my mom's over-baked turkey in 1976.

The first article was LEARNING FROM ADAM AND EVE. In it, I said that when we are tempted, “We can write out 5 reasons on a notecard of why we want to quit. We can write out 5 benefits to quitting. We can write out our goals for quitting.

Then when satan comes around and tempts us we read him a couple of lines from our card. When he doesn't give up – we start reading again.”

But did I follow my own advice? Noooooo.

The second article that I completely forgot was my second thread from the article, “THE BIBLE SAYS “BE YE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.” In that article, I listed 24 verses that pertain to quitting porn. I recommended praying over these verses. When we study how Jesus overcame temptation he fought back with the Word (The Bible). But did I fight back that way? Nooooooooooooo.

When satan brought a gun to his attack on Jesus he was outgunned. Jesus blasted back with a ballistic 2000 pound missile. Jesus attacked satan back with the Word of God. And He won.

Today I printed out the two articles that I had forgotten about. I put them in a folder and placed it where I am most tempted.

Tonight I am sure I will be tempted again. But tonight I am prepared. Prepared to review my reasons for quitting, goals for quitting, and benefits to quitting. Prepared with my printout of 24 verses for quitting that I can pray over and quote.

Yesterday I took a beating in my temptation. I fought back weakly.

Today I will be tempted, but I will be on the attack. I will be prepared.

    Here are the verses:

    1. 1 John 2:16 -
"For all that is in the world - the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life - is not from the Father but is from the world."

    2. Psalm 119:37 -
"Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word."

    3. 1 Corinthians 10:13 -
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

    4. Ephesians 3:16 -
"...that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being."

    5. Ephesians 3:20 -
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us."

    6. Philippians 4:8 -

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

    7. Proverbs 6:25 -
"Do not desire her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelids."

    8. 1 Corinthians 6:18 -
    "Flee sexual immorality."

    9. Galatians 5:16 -
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

    10. Romans 12:1–2 -
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will."

    11. Romans 13:12–14 -
Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh."

    1. Job 31:1 “I have made an agreement with my eyes. Then how can I look with lust?”

    2. Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it.

    3. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor–not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.

    4. Colossians 3:5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

    5. James 1:14-15 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

    6. 1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

    7. Matthew 5:28 But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

    8. Ephesians 5:3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

    9. 2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

    1. Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

    2. 2 Corinthians 3:17,18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

    3. Ephesians 5:11-12 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
