    Hey everyone,
I have been having a really difficult time lately having any progress at all in abstaining from P/M/O, about a month or so ago I was doing the best I have ever done with my addiction going 5/6 days and improving. I then felt like I had convinced myself into 'taking a break' and have been giving into temptation about 90% of the time since then, long story short I was wondering if anyone has had an experience like this and was able to come out of it strongly again.

There is no break for the crack addict. If you see this as a purely negative destructive, habit/addiction, behavior there is no letting up.

Sometimes we can be too obsessed with things and just letting them go can actually help improve things, but in the case of such an addictive habit as this, I don't think that would ever apply as the more you do it the greater the addiction grows.

A couple of months ago I made it 30 days, then relapsed and went a month without getting a streak above 3 days or so. Now I've managed to get a few days under my belt.

I second what @Themadfapper said. To break free from this addiction, we can't take breaks, or reward ourselves with porn for abstaining for a period. The dopamine releases we've received from PMO have ingrained these habits so deeply that we're capable of falling back at any time.

Unfortunately, I'm a prime example. I've been dealing with PMO addiction for over twenty years. During that time, I've gone periods of a year or more where the thought of PMO didn't even cross my mind. But then, seemingly out of nowhere, I fell back into a several month cycle of heavy use.

The reality however, is that it wasn't out of nowhere. Thinking that I had left PMO behind for good, I allowed myself to fall back into bad habits. Perhaps I started surfing the Internet after 9 pm, or neglected to meet with accountability partners, or stopped reading about the dangers of addiction, or got lazy about self-improvement. Then I possibly dealt with rejection of some sort (my main trigger), and I was right back in it.

This is to say that in all likelihood, you're going to have be vigilant about PMO for the rest of your life. As much as I wish it were true, a 90 day reboot just isn't going to cut it. It's therefore important to develop all of the necessary techniques for overcoming PMO (continually writing out and striving to reach goals, developing close relationships with family and friends, finding hobbies you're passionate about, forgiving both yourself and others, moving past disappointment as quickly as possible and maintaining a positive outlook, etc.) and commit to implementing them for the rest of your life.

A lot of people liken PMO to cancer. They're analogous because one doesn't cut out a cancerous growth in part but rather in its entirety. Failure to do so means the cancer will continue to spread through the body and healing will never take place. It's the same with PMO. If you're rewarding yourself with porn, or looking at porn-substitutes, or replaying in your mind the images and videos you've seen, you're never going to succeed. It's going to require a commitment to never again return to porn under any circumstances and developing all of the positive habits one needs to live a happy, fulfilling, PMO-free life.

I apologize if that came across as overly critical or negative, but I do think it's important to understand how committed we must be if we're to truly succeed.

With all that said, lots of people have left PMO behind for good, and I'm sure you can do the same.

No you put it perfectly, I appreciate you guys responding, I keep on thinking I can get through this by half-assing it which I knows isn't going to happen. If I am serious about it I will, like you guys said, do it continuously 24/7 here on out.
