It has nothing to do with generation vs generation. Past generations would have also had a segment of their populations acting like huge pussies with the current sensationalized 24 hour news cycle and the internet. So many Americans forget that basically throughout our entire history the media was REGULATED by the government. It wasn’t until around the Reagan era (a little before or after can’t remember atm) that those regulations were removed and ever since society is more and more polarized and media is making more profits from hyper sensalization and fear mongering.

It’s simply easier today for weak people to get scared, there is fear mongering all around us. And yes it happens on both sides, cry baby leftists whining about trump and conservatives seeing terrorists all around them stocking up on guns “just in case”. They’re both scaredy-cats.

As someone who studies history this is either outright purposely misleading or a giant simplification of the facts.

For example are ultra left anarcho communists actually on the right? Many of them believe in no taxation, no government etc. in fact the complete and utter opposite of statist communism a la Stalin. And yet both are “far left”. One is a direct democracy with essentially no government the other is authoritarian and statist and yet both are “left”.

This is the exact same thing with fascism (including nazis) and other right wing ideology. The left to right axis is simply far too simple you need to add more metrics. Many things the nazis did are diametrically opposed to many (but not all) “leftists” concepts, especially in regards to race/nationalism. The state and corporate dynamic in fascism is very different than socialism, but again which socialism?

Basically what we end up having is two horse shoes. Far left libertarianism and far right libertarianism eventually loop around to the point where they begin to resemble each other, even though one is technically based on communist thought and the other isn’t.

Far right and far left authoritarianism also begin to resemble each other despite also being based on completely different thought.

It’s not a simple case of statism vs non statism. Most if not all of the most far leftist positions are actually non statist, the same people Lenin and later Stalin utterly purged (aka murdered) during the early days of the Soviet Union. On the flip side man hyper conservative movements are very statist or intervention friendly whether it’s fascism or through a type of religion based government etc.

Basically what I’m saying is it’s kind of nonsense to characterize nazis as far leftists, especially if we primarily base this on the term “socialist”. Think about how weak that argument is. If it were so...North Korea must be a wonderful example of a democracy and a republic (democratic people’s Republic of Korea).

The name socialist in the nazi party stems from the fact that the nazi party DID initially have socialist aligned policies (for ethnic Germans only)...but they were also all PURGED, aka murdered....and what was left was a corporate statist fascist party, just like all the anarcho democratic republic element of the communist parties were utterly purged and we were left with statist authoritarian regimes.

Please read up on the “night of the long knives” when hitler purged the socialist element from the nazi party.

  3. I'll never understand why people describe themselves as left/right or liberal/conservative.
    1. Those terms have been defined and redefined so many times throughout history that now no two people agree on what those terms are supposed to mean.
    2. Why do you decide on what the answer is before you've even heard the question? That's the stupidest approach to problem solving I can imagine.

Exactly. It’s all this stupid team mentality. You’re either on the right or the left! Who’s team are you on? Oh you agree with some things on the left?? Well fuck you cry baby pussy leftist, go cry about the patriarchy!

Oh you agree with some things Trump said? Wow fuck you racist asshole scum!

The lack of nuance is insane. I cringe all the time I read crap about the “left” or the “right”. Shit even on Fox News look how different the hosts views are and they are on the “right”. Hell Tucker Carlson even said he might vote for Elizabeth warren of all people. So sad all nuance has been lost.

If you look at me I have some positions that are considered on the “right” and some on the “left”. Even those positions could be argued about from different perspectives (libertarian or liberal for example). I always love being called names by both sides at the same time.

  5. Excellent post. People should just come to specific views on specific subjects based on the relevant evidence, rather than obsessing over ideology.

  6. Correct. I've heard this ridiculous "Nazis were socialists" claim in the European Parliament too. Technically the Nationalsozialiste were a socialist party because they put it in the name (mostly to attract thugs on both sides of the Weimar underground) but in reality they had nothing to do with Marx's socialism. In the elections, NSDAP was running against social democrats and communists. Hitler called for privatization and abolishing social welfare because the weak should perish. I think that even some members of the US Republican party would say that's going a bit too far.

Fun fact: Jordan Peterson was not the first guy who criticized "cultural Marxism". See Kulturbolschewismus

  8. 5 pages of aimless complaining....disappointing.

If you believe the world has gone to shit because young people suck, feel free to exit stage left. You won't be missed.

Meanwhile, all the brilliant young people (not the trash on the news) who are doing research, developing new materials, algorithms, cleaning up polluted agricultural land and water, etc. will lead the way.
