I read this book when it first came out.....24 years ago. Not for porn addiction, but just for general life motivation. Porn addiction had not yet become a problem for me.

But it really helped me with motivation for working out, studying, etc.

Anyway, I had long forgotten about it. And I've been struggling with porn addiction for about 15-years years.

For the last couple of years, I have been trying all kinds of different mental techniques. If I relapsed, I would try something different.

What has become apparent is that simply trying to use your conscious mind to fight what your subconscious wants doesn't work.

So I've been researching ways to use pain and pleasure to retrain my subconscious.

    I've been doing things like:
    • As soon as a porn thought pops in my mind, create a feeling of fear, and picture myself swatting away something like that dark thing that took over spiderman. Basically, make it unpleasant for my brain when it delivers a porn thought.
    • Or I picture the sound of finger nails on a chalk board.
    • I create a facial expression of pain or disgust, or fear.
    • Then..... I smile and create feeling of happiness and love and pat myself on the back for stomping out the impending urge.
The one day, I remembered that old book from Anthony Robbins.

    He talks a lot about:
    • Connecting massive feelings of pain to the behavior you want to stop.
    • Come up with alternative, wholesome means of creating pleasure.

I was sort of discovering his techniques on my own (after everything else had failed for years).

Anyway, it's a great book. I don't think I have ever done so much high-lighting on my kindle ap :)

    Best of luck guys
