This is the last chance i'm going to give Semen "Retention" after 4 years of doing it.

When i say last chance, i don't mean that i'm going to stop doing it if i don't achieve what a want with it, but I won't see it as that “magical” thing I see in different posts that solves people's lives. Nor will I be obsessed with it in the sense of thinking that every drop of semen that is spilled that is not for creating offspring is a wasted drop. Which, by the way, right now I do think that way, and I still have hope that this practice is that magical practice that I keep reading about in posts and seeing in YouTube videos that greatly improves people's lives. I still have hope, but I'm starting to get tired.

In this thread, I'm going to tell my story and share my progress with this practice. Right now, I'm on day 76, and I'll continue to gradually update you on my experience as I move forward. But it won't be a daily update; rather, it will be every few days, since I've been down this road many times before, and from day 76 to day 77, there's really no change... If there are changes, they come with the passage of time.

Let me tell you about myself. I am a 29-year-old man, and I started masturbating when I was 10 years old. For years, during my teenage years, I could masturbate up to three times a day. When I started college at 18, I reduced the frequency, but I still masturbated an average of once a day.

At around 21, I learned about nofap. The problem is that at first I didn't take it very seriously and thought it was just a placebo, so during those years, although I reduced my masturbation frequency a little more, sometimes I would go back to it with a vengeance and wasn't consistent. It was when I was 24 that I learned about semen retention. I started watching a lot of videos, learning more about it, and realizing that many of the problems I had suffered in my life could have been caused by this bad habit. I really started to believe in it and take it more seriously.

I have several health problems that I will now list, and I want to make something very clear before mentioning them. No one else in my family has these problems, and I have always had very healthy habits (except for masturbating). It is important to mention this to make it clear that, in theory, no, I do not have any of these problems “because of genetics,” or “because I smoke,” or “because I don't exercise,” or “because I only eat processed foods.” All my relatives (brother, parents, grandparents, cousins) are healthy and don't have any of these problems, and for my part, I have always eaten a healthy and varied diet and exercised moderately. Let's see, it's impossible to do everything 100% right, but if I had to give myself an honest grade for how I've done things, I would give myself an 8/10. Here is my list of symptoms (which, over the years, I have also read about in multiple posts on semen retention, which are very typical of years of masturbation):

- Severe acne (now is better but when i was a teenager it was lethal)
- Seborrheic dermatitis (red skin in my face, dandruff)
- Hair loss
- Opened pores on my face
- Joint pain (it is true that i do weight training and that can cause that, but i do it very moderate and in a healthy manner and despite that, i have it)
- Back pain
- Acne scars
- Hemorrhoids or something similar to hemorrhoids
- Eye bags
- I wear glasses
- Fatigue and "depression" (not diagnosed but i have felt like shit emotionally for years)
- Losing a lot of friends and respect from my family and make me act weird and anti-social (whereas when I was a kid I was super outgoing and social)

And i think that is it. As i was saying, from 24 years old i have been practicing SR with streaks of 30, 90 and 180 days and of those symptoms, the back pain has improved a lot and also the acne, but acne has improved because i'm 29, not due to SR. In fact before starting SR my acne had already improved.

I started semen retention to improve all these symptoms and even cure myself completely, as I saw that there were people writing posts saying that they had been cured of all this. But the reality is that I have been doing this for years now, and although some of those symptoms have improved a little (such as seborrheic dermatitis), those improvements can be attributed to age and not to the practice itself, since it has not been a miraculous improvement or anything like that, and other symptoms such as hair loss and dark circles under the eyes have worsened.

Many people may tell me that I'm not doing something right: that I should be intermittent fasting, that I should only eat meat, that I should only eat fruit, that I'm having lustful thoughts. It's worth mentioning that I'm hardly “edging.” Obviously, I'm not perfect, and it's very difficult to be perfect, but as the years have gone by and I've gotten older, I've gotten better at controlling my lust, since my priority is to heal myself and find a woman to marry and give her a healthy man, not a sick man. And this is what hurts me and makes me sad, that I have been waiting for years for this to “cure” me so that I can move on with my life and give my future wife a healthy man, both physically and mentally, and the retention is not giving me what I expected it to give me.

And I'm tired of trying things: different diets, supplements like zinc, vitamin D3, magnesium, doing more cardio, trying to be super positive. I'm very tired, I just want to be calm, continue with the healthy habits I already have (not trying a thousand things that don't work) and see if this practice really improves things on its own. Because when I read that there are people who say, “No, you have to do X thing for it to work,” you're saying that the physical changes you've achieved haven't been due to the retention itself, but precisely because of those changes in habits, which may have been “prompted” by the retention. but what would have made you change would have been the habit itself (exercise, diet, etc.) and not semen retention. And then we would be saying that semen retention does not severely affect your health. And that's what I still don't want to believe; I want to continue believing in this.

Because when I'm doing this practice, I feel mentally/spiritually like I'm “doing the right thing.” When I see how badly people act in this world because of lust, with pedophilia, mass rapes of women, etc., and you start to see all this from the outside and you start to eliminate that lust, you feel like it's the right thing to do. But I'm tired of waiting, of having hope, and not seeing even the slightest sign of God, but rather everything going downhill.

The thing is, I've never given this a real chance to see its effects over a long period of time and see if it really heals me. So this time I'm going to do it for a whole year and see what happens. And I know that this time I'm not going to fail, because apart from all my previous experience, I'm at a point where I've hit rock bottom. I don't want to fail again and not know if it would have really worked or not. I want to give it a chance for a long time to see if it's as magical as they say on the internet and in old books. And if, at the end of the year, I haven't seen any improvement, I'll continue to practice semen retention, but it will be in a much more “normal person who doesn't believe in esoteric things” way. I would continue with my life, and if I have to have sporadic sex or whatever, I would do so without obsessing over it, because if doing it obsessively and believing in it doesn't work for me, then why continue with that plan? I am 100% committed to doing it perfectly, to giving this up in order to have children and only with your wife to bring you closer together and believe in God, but you have to prove to me that it really works. I can't trust something that doesn't give me tangible results.

So, as I said, I'm now on day 76, and maybe when I reach 100-something I'll update (if there's anything new to add). I'm going to keep trying my best, putting lust aside, eating relatively healthily, and exercising moderately.

I wonder how many people are in a similar situation to mine.

Best regards, I will keep you updated.

I had the flakes and redness and am curing them with Dr. Mark Hyman's "The 10-day detox" online program. Cutting out gluten, sugar, dairy, seed oils, alchohol, and caffeine were huge for me... I also had to cut out eggs and nuts recently. My skin is no longer flaking though as it turned out to be a leaky gut problem.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and good luck with finding the issues. I've had similar issues and as you already mentioned yourself, they get better with time. Both surpassing my twenties and doing semen retention helped with my symptoms and you can't really expect miracles to happen (even though they might).

If I were you, then I would tackle each and every issue by itself. It's quite unlikely that Semen Retention will solve all of them, but it can help you to reflect on your lifestyle choices and to have the patience and resourcefulness to research these topics (which you should unless you're doctor will help you with all of them).

My initial thoughts would be following (obviously not a doctor, just giving you my perspective that might or might not be helpful):

- Severe acne (now is better but when i was a teenager it was lethal)
-> Combined with hair loss can be related to high testosterone, which is good for you in some ways

- Seborrheic dermatitis (red skin in my face, dandruff)
-> Combined with opened pores on your face possibly/obviously related to skin health. There is a lot to learn about it and it usually takes a radical lifestyle shift but the reward (healthy radiant skin) is worth it. I would research in the direction of skincare (lot to learn about it) and also possibly nutrition and clean lifestyle without drugs.

- Hair loss
-> As mentioned above possibly related to high testosterone, but if you're in this forum maybe not? Sometimes it's related to nutritional deficiences, I had hair loss during stressful periods as a vegan but not anymore since I eat minced beef every day. Saturated fats are helpful, apparently hair grows back and doesn't fall out if it gets enough nutrients.

- Opened pores on my face
-> Most likely related to skincare as well, once again there's a lot to learn about it. If you put body lotion on your face (just as an example) it gets worse instead of better. Also many facial creams will probably rather do the opposite for you considering you're battling with seborrheic dermatitis.

- Joint pain (it is true that i do weight training and that can cause that, but i do it very moderate and in a healthy manner and despite that, i have it)
-> I don't know anything about it because I never had it. I personally do yoga once a week because I know weight training could potentially cause these issues as you already mentioned.

- Back pain
-> Don't know anything about it either. My orthopedist told me the yoga is great during a routine check-up, which was quite unexpected.

- Acne scars
-> Not really a health problem but you can somewhat minimize them with the right facial care (see above). I can give you LRP Cicaplast Baume as an example.

- Hemorrhoids or something similar to hemorrhoids
-> Don't know anything about it, sorry.

- Eye bags
-> Don't know anything about it, sorry. Some people put their face in ice-water to get rid of them from what I've heard but it's probably just a temporary solution.

- I wear glasses
-> I improved my eyesight from -1.75 to -1 over a decade by not wearing sunglasses and living healthy. Unfortunately it's stagnating recently and I believe it's because of my much higher screen time and more stress :(

- Fatigue and "depression" (not diagnosed but i have felt like shit emotionally for years)
-> We all do. Welcome to the club. It will probably get somewhat better with time or else you learn enjoying it more.

- Losing a lot of friends and respect from my family and make me act weird and anti-social (whereas when I was a kid I was super outgoing and social)
-> There's a lot of strength in that as well, many people are being held back by their friends and family. Just saying.

Once again these are just my personal thoughts because I really liked the way you wrote everything down. I've done it once as well and it was a starting point to actually solve these issues (like the dermatitis stuff for example after a decade).

I have also cured some things simply by practicing semen retention but once again it can only do so much and needs to be supported by lifestyle choices as well.

Good luck and let us know how everything is going.

Forgot to mention this was what made me think about this thread. He wrote a great book called 'The Ultramind Solution' which was a great read and utterly helpful. Recently my diet has been centered around testosterone and I can feel how my brain isn't benefitting as much as my muscle growth. I should probably re-read it!

Interestingly I have a copy sitting on my shelf I will crack open in the near future! When I'm fully done with the detox (extending it slightly), that will be my next step to exploring his work.

Thank you for the suggestion, but in the past tried to remove dairy, gluten and carbs and it didn't worked for me. That's why i said that i'm tired of trying things  moreover none of my family has this, so it would be kind of strange that just me is "allergic" or "intolerant" to any of those things, but everything is possible i guess.

Well, thank you very much for your detailed response. In any case, as I mentioned in my post, I have already tried many of the things you mention. You have to keep in mind that I haven't just been trying things since I learned about nofap (which would still be several years), but even before I knew about all this, I had acne and seborrheic dermatitis, and I did a lot of research and tried many things (different diets, over time, and many different supplements). As for my eyesight, I also improved it somewhat by using the “endmyopia” method. I recommend looking it up. It's not miraculous, but it can improve your vision.

In any case, I want to make two things clear about my thread: I'm not looking for advice or help (although I really appreciate it), because as I said, I've already tried a thousand things, and there comes a point where continuing to try is worse for your mental health than anything else, because you get your hopes up, you hope that something will work, and then you're disappointed when it doesn't (and you also spend money if it's supplements or things like that).

I generally have good habits, and always have: I eat a balanced Mediterranean diet, with fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, legumes, potatoes, and whole grains. I exercise moderately (so as not to overstress my body) and try to sleep well and get some sun when I can. I firmly believe, considering all these habits and the fact that no one else in my family has this problem, that my health is ruined simply because I masturbated like crazy for years and years. And with all the knowledge I have today, I know that this is lethal for the nervous and hormonal systems. What I don't know is whether, by doing the right things for a long time, one can recover, or whether this damage is already permanent, but I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The other thing I want to mention is that I don't think I'll be paying much attention to any messages you write here, because, as I said, I want to focus this thread more on being a diary where I write about what someone who has been practicing semen retention for a few years and is now doing it quite well can experience, starting from a point where my health was really bad. And also so you can see a real testimony, without esotericism or exaggeration.

So I apologize in advance if you write a message and I reply late or whatever, but ultimately I don't like logging into these forums every day, since I've been doing it for several years and over time (which I imagine some of you have also experienced), it can also “damage” you a little, because although there are useful testimonials and help, there are also many lies and exaggerations, and sometimes you start reading post after post and get absorbed. And sometimes it's better to be out in nature or with your loved ones than here reading in front of a screen. I just don't want to be obsessed with this. I want to do my best, of course, now with all my experience and with nothing more to lose, and keep updating here in case it helps anyone. And continue living my normal life, which, as I've already said, is healthy and without lust.

Greetings, I'll update.

Epsilon I can only tell you that you are right. Let me say this again: YOU ARE RIGHT. YOU ARE 100% RIGHT. It's not for other people to judge how you life you life, especially considering that you are already putting in a lot of effort (which other people probably don't). I just had to smirk when I read your post talking about a balanced Mediterranean diet, with fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, legumes, potatoes, and whole grains. In my case that was exactly the trigger, because apparently I was allergic to certain ingredients that are considered healthy and that I ate on a daily basis as part of a 'balanced diet'. I'm not saying your problems are related to (food) allergies or the fact that you eat vegetables (many antinutrients, better to be avoided according to some studies) or legumes (some people avoid them completely due to lectins) and whole grains (very difficult for many people) , how the fuck can I know if that's the trigger? I just want to encourage you to continue doing what you already doing while still having an open mind and realizing neither we ourselves nor modern medicine has already found the solution for everything. I remember 10 years ago thinking to myself 'Life and modern medicine suxx, I can only hope they'll find a solution in the next decades' and slowly but surely more information and products are becoming available when it comes to treating skin issues. I can only give you an an example, I know a girl from IG/TikTok who has seborrheic dermatitis. And she always goes partying and in general likes to put on makeup. Who wouldn't? Why would you ever not do it? And why would other people forbid her doing something that's fun? Sometimes it's something we do but we don't even realize. Sometimes we realize but couldn't help it. Sometimes it's not something we do consciously. Sometimes it's just the fact we have jerked off too much (really!). But you know about it already. I personally never talk about these issues with doctors anymore because it's never really possible for them to go into depth with their research, read through 1000s of pages on this specific topic and try out dozens of things while monitoring the symptoms and then hopefully being able to make the right judgement. Only you can.

I have seb derm too along with other facial skin issues like redness (caused by Accutane), oiliness and the fact that my skin is noticeably darker than the rest of my body makes me very uncomfortable. I had none of these issues a few years back and miss the old days. And just like in your case, none of my relatives have to deal with any of this so I doubt it’s just genetics.

I too hoped that Nofap/semen retention would help but so far I haven’t even managed any good streak at all. Once I reach between 5-10 days I get wet dreams and feel like I’ve lost the extra energy that abstaining from PMO gave me. I recently started doing exercises at night that are supposed to help with this.

Pls update us, we are dealing with similar issues and I would love to know how you are doing. I wish you all the best brother

Taking on the challenge of SR and sticking with it, no matter how many “falls,” how many disappointments, doubts, fears etc. develops the qualities of patience, perseverance, and faith. When I “fall,” I just get back up again. What else can I do?
If we had 100% faith in ourselves, in life, then “magic “ might not seem such a far out concept?!
Let’s keep on walking through the fire. Isn’t it our ultimate psychological trainer?

As "promised", here i am, right now i'm 172 days in.

I was going to wait until 180 days to write this, why? because my longest "streak" ever was 180 days (actually, i think it was 187 days, i was not counting so precisely). So for me, this is a pretty big milestone, because in a week or two, I’ll officially be on my longest streak in SR since I started fapping when I was 10.

I know that this practice can lead to significant spiritual growth; I’ve read all about it, and in a way, over the past few years that I’ve been doing SR, I’ve experienced it firsthand. But for now, in this thread, I’m going to focus more on my physical symptoms, because that was the main reason I started this practice and stopped self-harming. Maybe in the future, if I keep going with all this and achieve my physical goals, I might be able to mention something about the spiritual aspect of this practice.

What i can see after 172 days of SR:

- Severe acne (now is better but when i was a teenager it was lethal)

I don't know if i'll continue talking about this, because, to be honest, since i am an adult, i have not acne (and not thanks to SR, just grow up). But sometimes, i still get 1 or 2 little pimples in my face or back. I don't know if is due to diet (if i eat something specific) or it is because of the damage done due to years of fapping that i still got those.

The thing is, I still get breakouts now and then, but I feel like they happen less often than before. Plus, I feel like they clear up faster, are even smaller when they appear, and heal more quickly (they used to leave more of a mark). However, since my skin isn’t perfect (in terms of pimples) and I’ve only noticed this small improvement (compared to the baseline I mentioned earlier, which is that I no longer have acne except for 1 or 2 a week), I can’t say for sure yet whether it’s a real improvement or a placebo effect. But it does seem like a real improvement, albeit a subtle one. I’ll keep you posted.

- Seborrheic dermatitis (red skin in my face, dandruff)

The only thing I've noticed about this is that I used to have dandruff in my hair, on my eyebrows, and some redness on my skin. This, just like acne, has improved over the years, since as you grow up your hormones simply stabilize and you’ll get better, whether or not you practice SR. But what I have noticed lately—and just as I mentioned with the acne, it could be a placebo effect or a real benefit—is that I have less dandruff on my eyebrows. My face is still a bit red, and I still have dandruff in my hair (though I think a little less). The problem with this is that when it improves, even just a little, it’s hard to tell if it’s actually improved or if it’s just a coincidence and I’m on a lucky streak, since I still have it—it hasn’t completely gone away—so it’s hard to tell if there’s been an improvement or not. But if I had to take a guess, I’d say yes—especially on my eyebrows, I notice I have a little less dandruff, even though it hasn’t gone away completely. We’ll see what happens in the coming months.

- Hair loss

Things have gotten worse, and that’s one of the reasons I’m losing faith in the practice. The same thing happened to me during my 180-day streak, and that’s why I ended up failing—because I didn’t know if I was seeing any real improvement in at least one area, and seeing other things continue to get worse was really demotivating. Yes, it’s gotten worse—excessively worse? No, just like it was months ago—but it’s not like it’s improved, at least not that I’ve noticed. Look, I don’t expect to get all my hair back in a few months, you know; I understand that’s not realistic and it might take time. But I did hope that at least the hair loss would stop completely so things wouldn’t get worse and the dandruff would go away entirely. And so far, neither has happened. That’s why I want to stick with this practice for at least a year (i mean full focused on it), so I can feel at peace with myself, knowing that at the very least, no one can say I didn’t give my body time to recover and prove to myself whether this practice (SR) actually works or not.

- Opened pores on my face

In this regard, it’s the same as with acne and dermatitis—I see a very, very slight improvement, with my skin looking a little clearer and more even, but the pores are still there. It’s not a noticeable improvement that would let me say this has really helped. I don’t know if I’ll be able to say anything different in a few months. What I can say, though, is that at least my skin hasn’t gotten worse (as is obvious) from doing this practice; on the contrary, you could even say it’s improved. But of course, as I mentioned, the improvement is so subtle that for now I can’t say for sure whether it’s due to the practice itself or just a coincidence or a placebo effect.

- Joint pain (it is true that i do weight training and that can cause that, but i do it very moderate and in a healthy manner and despite that, i have it)

To be honest, things have improved. It’s true that it’s hard for me to say whether it’s because of SR itself, or because I now train much more intelligently than I did a few years ago—recovering properly and training fewer days a week. But the reality is that my knees, wrists, and shoulders used to hurt a lot. And today, they aren’t 100% perfect, but I’d say they’re 80–90% there—meaning they don’t usually hurt, and they might hurt if I overdo my training or get into some weird position. So objectively, I have seen an improvement in this that coincides with my years of retention, but as I said, I’ve also improved how I train.

- Back pain

From now on, I won’t bring this up again, because I think I already mentioned that this issue has gone away since I started this practice. When I was a teenager, I had a lot of lower back problems and even ended up with severe lower back pain that kept me in bed for a week; I could barely move (coincidentally, this was around the time I was masturbating the most—2 or 3 times a day). And over the years that followed, I sometimes had pain. I always attributed it to sitting for long hours, you know?

Then, when I discovered NoFap and SR, I also learned about concepts from traditional Chinese medicine (thanks to texts like those by Soaring Eagle) that discussed how masturbation is harmful to kidney health, and that’s why many people who masturbate report lower back pain. And that once you stop, the health of those specific organs improves significantly.

And that’s exactly what happened. I don’t usually have lower back problems anymore unless I do something stupid (like sitting for hours on end, which is unfortunately common in my job, or pushing myself too hard at the gym).

- Acne scars

My skin looks worse than it did 2 or 3 years ago (I’m referring exclusively to the scars), but I have to admit that I was doing microneedling at home with a derma stamp using 1.5mm needles—which is exactly what they don’t recommend because it can cause further damage to the skin—and I think that’s exactly what happened. That wasn’t very smart of me. I’ll probably get some kind of treatment for this—I’m not sure if it’ll be with retinoids at home or at a dermatology clinic. But to be honest, I doubt SR will make your atrophic acne scars disappear, because, I mean, they’re not wounds as such—they’re scars. How is your body supposed to figure out on its own that it needs to remodel that? Or I don’t know—if any of you can share your experience with this and acne scars (but real acne scars—atrophic, rolling, boxcar, ice pick—not just marks; marks can fade over time).

- Hemorrhoids or something similar to hemorrhoids

It's gotten better, but it hasn't completely healed. But yeah, it's gotten better. A few months ago, it itched a lot, and now it doesn’t itch on a daily basis. Sometimes I notice it a little, but like, once a week or so, and it’s just a mild itch. So, I could say that for now it’s settled into a chronic state, but it’s much better than it was a few months ago. Will it heal completely? We’ll see in the future.

- Eye bags

They look exactly the same as they did a few months ago. I haven’t noticed any improvement—or any worsening—over the past few months; they’re just the same. It’s worth noting that I didn’t have them a few years ago, so it’s not genetic, nor is it something I’m bound to have. I simply think I have poor blood circulation (I can tell because I have small varicose veins on my legs), and that’s what causes the bags under my eyes. That circulation may have been severely impaired by years of masturbation, but so far, I haven’t noticed a visible improvement in that regard. What I have noticed is that my eyes seem to be a little whiter, but I can’t say for sure because they aren’t completely white, and it’s not like they were super red in the past (though they were a bit more so than they are now).

- I wear glasses

Well, of course I still wear them, haha, but I reported this because I’ve read many times that people’s vision improves when they do SR. I’d say it’s still about the same—I haven’t noticed any significant improvement (and it’s something I’m paying attention to as well, since I’m trying to use the EndMyopia method to improve my vision).

- Fatigue and "depression" (not diagnosed but i have felt like shit emotionally for years)

Let's see, objectively speaking, I am better in both respects. The thing is, I am better, but not as dramatically as I've seen people describe in online testimonials. As for fatigue, I used to feel lazy about almost everything; I was very lethargic. Right now I feel more alert. But it’s not like what I’ve sometimes read about feeling like a damn machine full of energy, who has to work out 7 times a day to burn it off—no, nothing like that. In fact, I still have a hard time getting up early, I still need 8 hours of sleep, and there are still days when I get tired. But I do notice the opposite feeling of what you have when you have released —when you have released, you have that feeling of not wanting to do anything, of just resting, of not pursuing any goals, of not interacting with anyone. I notice the opposite feeling: I feel more like doing things and going out; I feel more like talking to people; I’m less lazy; I also feel like I concentrate better and as if my mind is operating at a slightly higher frequency.

As for depression, given that my life got much worse because of the bad habit of masturbation and many of those things I’ve missed out on or don’t have are still the case today, it’s obvious that I can’t be at my peak level of happiness or fulfillment. But I do notice that I’m more emotionally stable, less reactive, and feel calmer or more at peace (even though there might be bad days, but even on the bad days, I feel like they aren’t as bad as they used to be emotionally).

- Losing a lot of friends and respect from my family and make me act weird and anti-social (whereas when I was a kid I was super outgoing and social)

Well, I already touched on this a bit in the previous point. I’m still single (I wanted to recover first, as I said, but I also said I wanted to start experiencing those things, and I’m going to start—I don’t know if it’ll be now or if I’ll wait a few more months—but I’ll wait to have sex until I really get to know the person and we’ve been together for a while), and as for friends and so on, I still have the same ones, except I notice that I want to interact with them more, and I don’t feel that laziness about wanting to talk to anyone. I don’t think I’ll talk much about this social stuff either, unless something happens that makes me really happy or is unusual.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In conclusion: Over the past few months, I’ve noticed very subtle improvements in some areas, but as you can see, they aren’t significant enough to say for sure that they’re due to SR. Then there are some issues, like hair loss (which, as I mentioned before, isn’t genetic and was supposedly caused solely by years of masturbation), and seeing them continue to get worse really saddens me and demotivates me a bit. I think I read a text by Soaring Eagle that mentioned that when you start SR, hair loss can get worse for a while, because you haven’t recovered yet and yet your body “misses” the extreme dopamine you were giving it. Like a drug addict going through withdrawal.

But I don’t know—I’d really love to read a real-life testimonial from one of you who’s actually been through a situation similar to mine, with real health issues that aren’t genetic and were likely caused by years of masturbation (since I had all the other healthy habits), and who, by practicing SR, has truly made a miraculous recovery. It would motivate me a lot, since usually the testimonials I see are from people who didn’t have serious problems to begin with (when I say serious, I mean clearly visible—clearly going bald, clearly acne scars, clearly a red face and dandruff; there are some who don’t have any of that and just notice their skin and hair are a bit shinier and their eyes are whiter, but they didn’t start out that way). But obviously, cancer is much more serious than all of this (or similar issues). Even so, I think that those kinds of truly serious health problems start with these things—with your body warning you that you’re not well—which is why I want to improve all of this. It’s by no means a matter of ego or appearance, but of health.

I’m going to keep doing SR and I’ll keep posting updates here. As you’ve seen, I’ve barely written anything these past few months, and I’m going to keep it that way—it’s good for my mental health, and it helps me keep this up without being here all the time. Even so, I’ll still be reading your posts in case you can help me, or replying if I can. I don’t know, maybe I’ll post an update again around day 200-something. What’s coming up next is new to me—I’ve never made it this far. I’ll stay focused; I’ve got nothing left to lose. I just want to get better and try to be happy with the life I have left—I’ve already wasted too many years on that crap.

Do you know what I hate about the community surrounding this practice? Especially on the SR subreddit—here on this forum, people are much more down-to-earth, but on that forum there are a lot of totalitarians and extremists (this doesn't go for everyone, there are also a lot of folks willing to help in any way necessary and to view things more realistically). What I hate is that if I say I’ve been doing SR for 234 days and I don’t notice the huge benefits that many people talk about—that my health hasn’t really improved much, and some things have even kept getting worse—and that I don’t see that “magic” everyone raves about, etc.— They either throw “hate” at you or try to figure out “what other things” you’re getting wrong—like intermittent fasting, healthy eating, etc.

It’s like, if SR depends on other factors like those, then what’s bringing about the changes in your health isn’t SR—it’s those other changes… SR would have to be powerful in and of itself to bring about significant changes on its own, without any other changes. And even more so for someone like me who already has relatively healthy habits to begin with.

The truth is that even though this practice has led me to engage in spiritual and moral introspection about my actions, I haven’t experienced the physical benefits I expected—or the ones people talk about online. Some will tell you that’s not true, that you just have to wait five years to start seeing benefits. And when you reach those five years and are still the same, then it’ll be a ten-year streak. It gets to a point where it starts to get ridiculous.

I'm going to keep doing this because I want to make it to the one-year mark in case something changes and as a personal milestone. And also because it's true that I now find masturbating to porn pathetic. But I, at least, haven't experienced any of that magic yet. I mean, if it had at least stopped getting worse, I'd still say, “Okay, recovery is going to take time, but at least I've stopped getting worse.” But it hasn't even done that—at least not in a way that's visible to me.

Greetings.

but on that forum there are a lot of totalitarians and extremists

Yup I've noticed that as well. Pretty disappointing to mix living a healthier lifestyle with dominating others. It's a sign of a wounded spirit and the addiction continuing through a broken relationship to society (in AA they call this the "dry drunk")

I’ve been doing SR for 234 days and I don’t notice the huge benefits that many people talk about
I don’t see that “magic” everyone raves about

There's a lot of overpromising in recovery communities of all kinds. In early AA people believed you had to have a instantaneous "white light" religious experience to get sober. It was such a problem that they had to write and add a new appendix to the 2nd edition to clarify this error.

Nowadays we read in meetings that the changes happen for us "sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly...they will always materialize if we work for them."

The truth is that even though this practice has led me to engage in spiritual and moral introspection about my actions

Yooo that's fantastic! Maybe focus on the benefits this is bringing you?
I'd love to hear more about this. What are some examples of spiritual and moral introspection? What practices are you currently doing?

I haven’t experienced the physical benefits I expected—or the ones people talk about online.

In 12 Step groups they say "an expectation is a guaranteed resentment." And resentments are the #1 cause of relapse.

It's not an easy practice to give up expectations, but working on my awareness of when they crop up is a good start.
Self-improvement is a a journey and is its own reward. If I put a timeline on my healing I'm guaranteed to be disappointed. 'cause goddammit I wanna be better NOW! :P
