    Hey fellow nofappers,

What are your thoughts on coffee and alcohol.

I find these both can have an impact on my mood and therefore can also cause me to slip.

However I also find that by withdrawing from these pleasure they can sap will your willpower and also reduce your happiness i.e. feel like your missing out.

Coffee seems to be a what people use socailise around at work so I replaced it with green tea however sometimes I feel more part of the group if I choose coffee and the work day goes faster.

In the weekend its alcohol. The choice to drink or to be almost anti-social and heavily restrict your drinking at the cost of seperating yourself from others... Or just go with it and hope when the hangover comes you have the will to resist temptation... any thoughts?

Scondly people who have completed a reboot if you have abstain from such things do you feel now you can enjoy the pleasures of alcohol or coffee without the fear of a slip??

This go around I completely gave up alcohol but I also drank alone a lot. If you're going to be with people drinking I'd either lay off of it for a couple weeks or just don't find yourself alone while you're intoxicated.

Coffee i limit myself to in the mornings now and usually only a cup or two. I never noticed if it made a difference with nofap or not, but if its noticeably changing your mood just cut back a bit and limit it to the AM if you're working or with other people.

  3. Alcohol leads to loosen moral.

Loosen moral leads to disabling of web filters.

Disabling of web filter leads to the dark side, young Padavan. ;-)

P.S. There is no upside to drinking alcohol. An expensive payment for hangover. Get social without alcohol... ;-)

My suggestion for coffee is to have one or two cups in the morning and no more caffeine for the rest of the day. When I drink more caffeine than that, or when I indulge in pop all afternoon and evening, I can really feel a difference in poorer physical and mental health. That high energy level buzz promotes anxiety and boredom which can be a trigger.

For alcohol, I have a rule that I never drink alone. And only one night a week. And I never get drunk drunk

I think a really good approach is to this is to consider moderation and timing. A cup of coffee in the morning on your way to work probably isn't going to have too much of an impact. But drinking coffee throughout the day and into the evening is going to keep you up, keep your brain racing and give temptation a foothold in your down time.

Same goes for alcohol - a few drinks at the end of the week can be an excellent way to unwind with friends. But getting drunk, or drinking alone at home isn't going to help in the willpower department.

I'd advise laying off both in the early stages of a reboot if you can, particularly if you know it makes it harder to abstain. In answer to your question - I've completed my reboot, and enjoy a delicious coffee most days at the start of work, but I actually drink far less caffeine than I used to before, simply because I have much more energy naturally, and am far more concious about healthy choices. Same goes for alcohol; I'll enjoy a social drink over dinner, but I just don't feel the need to get drunk.

IMO alcohol is fine if it's drunk occasionally like in social gatherings. Regular consumption isn't a good idea because it somehow dampens your spirit and it does damage your body for sure.

  7. I use coffee every day for work. It sharpens my mind and gives me the energy needed to complete every task my boss gives me. I use it both to start off my day and when it gets busy and chaotic and I need one final push to get through everything. I take it black because cream and sugar do nothing but add fat and calories. It also makes my bowels move faster which is a plus.

Alcohol, on the other hand, is simply something I will never touch, period. I've seen it destroy too many lives. And anyone that uses it to socialize is a conformist moron that doesn't understand what it's doing to their brain cells. Maybe not in the short run, but eventually chugging down those Budweisers or Heinekens will cause memory loss and reduced cognitive abilities.

  8. I have never used alcohol and won't use it.
I quit caffeine altogether 3 months ago and noticed a huge improvement in the quality of my sleep.

Just today, I replied to a fapstronaut who had gotten drunk last night and lost a 25-day streak because of it. He realized his mistake and is learning from it.

Like Kurapika 2, I don't use alcohol at all, and I never have. I honestly do not know how it tastes! My social life has never suffered because of this in any way about which I care. I feel the same about tobacco.

As for caffeine, I do not like coffee! I drink one cup of tea (Earl Grey) most afternoons, never later, and I enjoy it. I often get very hungry just before bedtime, so I used to snack, fap, then sleep. Even before I gave up fapping, I started drinking a cup of herbal tea (no caffeine) before bed instead of snacking. That satisfied the hunger and helped me lose some minor overweight. Now, I usually drink decaffeinated Earl Grey before bedtime (in addition to my afternoon caffeinated tea), and I go right to sleep without any fapping. One thing that I like about not fapping is that I get to sleep more.

I thin he means there is no upside to drinking very much alcohol! Lots of people enjoy the flavor a lot. Just hold strong with how much you intake, and definitely do not get drunk or even tipsy.

    Wow!!!

thank you for the responses everyone I didnt expect this much information.

You all have given me alot to think on.

I think I will set a limit one coffee in the morning if I feel I need it but will lay off it for my early stages of my reboot.

For alcohol I understand peoples critical reponse, although sometimes I feel that trying to control and be too strict on ourselves have led us to our addictions - it our minds way of telling us loosen up a little and if we repress it too much it finds a way..
I often see poeple that are addicts are the ones who are too uptight and judgemental on themselves and others so I am trying to be more compassionate.
So I will take a similar route with alcohol:

One day a week drinking and just a few not so I will be drunk. but again none during early stages of my reboot.

    Anyway,

Thank you all for the responses definitely will help!

Personally, I didn't have to set hard rules for alcohol. I partied hard my freshman and sophomore year of college and as a result. Because of that, I think I have matured and mellowed out a lot, I rarely drink. Not because I set a hard rule, but I just don't feel I need to. I can have fun without it and I don't hang around many who drink a lot. However when I do drink, I don't like being drunk. I hate the memories of black out drunk and being super drunk, so I just don't drink a lot.

  13. I don't use alcohol. I have tasted alcohol in the past, which was the one of the worst drinks I've ever tasted. I have no plans on ever taking up drinking alcohol.

I used to be hooked on caffeine, guzzling energy drinks, 5-hour Energies and coffee until I found out it really made it harder for me to relax and sleep at night. The buzz that caffeine gave me is not worth losing my sleep over. Now I've stopped my caffeine intake completely, relying on my own self to keep awake and motivated. My nights have never been more peaceful.

Thanks for your information guys and girls I am quitting caffeine and I have already stopped taking alcohol for about 1 month now since I have a thai boxing fight next month I think caffeine is not helping with my training so I am going to stop, With my fight training sadly most of my friends drink every week for "fun" I hate it personally but still did it to try and get a girl with but nothing happend. Now without going out with friends and drinking I have been more less social I have to sacrifice this to win my fight, which I can't lose since I lost my last one :) So Theses sacrifices like, no drugs at all and NoFap hopefully will make me strong mentally and physically to win!

  15. I'm quiting alcohol. I was a morning drinker. Alcohol abuse and then social and relationship frustrations led me to compulsive MO. Not for me anymore.

    Hi @hellfire2
Alcohol was definitely a trigger to porn I am now just over 6 months alcohol free I haven’t been this content in my adult life ever...
I am not sure about alcohol sapping your will power, but if you did have drinking buddies, you may find that they vacant the premises quickly so to speak...Alcohol may try to convince you that you are unhappy, but there are so many benefits to be gained financial, mental, spiritiual and general health...

My experiences gained through becoming teetotal, has started me on this path to deal with another issue in my life, hence why I joined here..
Quitting Alcohol, must always be your decision alone...

May I wish you the best in this..

  17. I'm a recovering alcoholic, so my opinions on that are predictable (and also very particular to someone with my problem).

I'd urge anyone to be cautious around alcohol and any other drug though.

Including caffeine, which was a contributor to my anxiety, which is certainly a driver of my PMO abuse. I used to drink a pot of very strong black coffee every morning - a therapist once told me I might as well take amphetamines to start the day. I've successfully moderated my caffeine though, and I drink no more than three cups of green tea each day. I occasionally have a coffee when I'm out or on holiday as a treat.

It's very boring and I'm sure you already know this, but be moderate and try to be careful about using any external substance or behaviour to moderate difficult emotions. And be wary of doing stuff just to fit in, it's done me no good.

In the past alcohol interacted damagingly with PMO. Now I'm alcohol free I still have to beat the PMO. I've also given up weed, and that was a much bigger problem around PMO for me.

Take care. Find what works for you.

I don't drink at all and people almost worship my social skills especially when others are drinking. It's crazy.

  19. Alcohol is basically poison. There are usually suppressed emotions as to why an individual would even want to consume it at all, whether moderately or not.

I used to drink it out with friends in university and get drunk most nights, for a full year, but I'm no longer that dude. I've woken up.

Alcohol is very similar to PMO. It's just another thing that people use to escape, same with cigarettes.

People can also be addicted to coffee/caffeine. Too much coffee is not good, as it is too much acid in the body. I'm confused as to why we as a race consume so much coffee, when there is the healthier herbal option such as green tea, which also has caffeine in it, but it's healthier. Tastes great with honey as well.

I would say, be careful. Especially when it comes to coffee where the caffeine in them really wakes you up, and can cause you to think sexually even if you just FAPed the day before. I actually recommend that people stop drinking coffee, and I know that students in university will never take that advice, but either way, try. I think what would be more of a healthy routine is to go to the gym (i.e. doing cardio) and jogging outside. That usually wakes me up without the sexual desire, and I can be more focused on my work.

    Good luck on your struggles!
