Hey, fellows. I've come across a TED talk called Addiction and Trust. In it, the speaker, Marc Lewis, touches upon the topic of addicts not trusting anything but the addiction, which ironically betrays us in the end. He then goes on to emphasize the importance of building a trusting relationship with your future self. What does this mean to you? This reminded me of an exercise that Kelly McGonigal described in her talk The Willpower Instinct, in which you invent a future self that has overcome your problem/ addiction, and you write an encouraging letter to your present self from that point of view. I can see the value of that. Can you?

Without necessarily watching the videos, what immediately comes to mind when you think of your future self?

Is it somebody much like you are now?

Is this future self much stronger, wiser, having transcended the issues you've come to this forum to solve?

Please feel free to write anything at all that comes to mind on the topic of trust in your life.

    Thanks.
