Unbroken Brain

There is a pretty new book by the journalist Maia Szalavitz: Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction. Although it's mostly about drug addiction, much of what she has to say about how addiction develops, who is vulnerable to it, under what circumstances, and what scientific research says about how best to treat it, probably applies to porn addiction as well. She is really up to date on the neurology, and knows the subject from inside, as a recovered coke and heroin addict herself. She critiques some -- but far from all -- of the guidance from 12-step programs, arguing that addicts need loving relationships, not being cut off from family and friends in order to "hit bottom."
