    Hey Fapstronauts:

First off, sorry for taking so long to get around to this. Life has been really weird lately and, to be honest, I haven't been as effective as usual. But I'm getting back into a better state and am ready to tackle some technical challenges, first of which will be getting this forum prettier and easier to use.

Probably will be paying a designer out-of-pocket to handle this, but of course I'll be doing some coding myself and managing the project.

For reference, here are some example forums across the internet that I like the styles of:

For those reading this, what do you think of these forums? Anything that you would like to "steal" from any of those and use here? Anything that you don't like about them? W

    My main goals are:
    • Easy to read the text
    • Easy to use, so easy that new users won't have any problems
The purpose of this thread is to solicit your feedback. Whether it be a suggestion, complaint about the current stock installation style, idea, anything at all, I'll take it into heavy consideration and implement as many ideas as possible.

We might not be able to get to everything in version 1, but will continually work to make the forums as awesome as possible.

Here are some comments I've found so far, mostly in this thread and this thread:

Is anyone else finding the new layout tricky to use? I feel the one we were on before was much easier to read off the screen. The font is so faint in certain places, I find I am squinting and leaning into the screen to read it. This is annoying and, I hope easy to fix. Is anyone having ease of use issues? :(

I have a solution, write your text in San-Serif like Verdana (my favourite font), San - Serif fonts are easier to
to read and comfortable to the eyes as compared to Serif fonts (which have line strokes in the end)....other forum texts are yes small and dull, you cannot do anything
    - @Ankur Sharma

So one thing that I don't understand is when I click on 'new posts', it doesn't show the same thing as 'recent posts'. I guess I don't know how the two are or should be different.
    - @Dante's Shadow

There are problems with stored messages. I have a number of important messages stored and now, as they appear on the list, there is nothing to say who they are from. You used to be able to go to Private Messages with a tab. You could go to Recent Activity with a tab, too.
    - @IGY

The only thing I'm getting difficulties with is rapidly accessing to the threads I've posted in to find if there's any answers. This was easier before.
    - @Anne-Dauphine

it looks good but it confuses me not knowing what threads have new posts in them

    Hi Alex,

I think the first and last option are pretty close to the same, and the middle three are pretty close to the same. That being said, I like the "middle three" option. I think it would be easier to read, easier to jump right into the more active threads, and give people an example of what kind of threads belong in each forum topic.

Thanks for keeping this site going, anything you chose will be great.

The forum is perfect already dont change it please because nobody likes getting used to something else which is basically the same.

Just fix the bugs , no need for a new layout.
    my 2 cents.

Styleforum.net has some really great features. The one I'd particularly like to see is the "spoiler" function. This allows you to hide part of your post, until the reader chooses to expand it. I wrote a really long post that some might have considered off-topic for the thread. I thought it was relevant enough to the discussion, but could see how others might have disagreed. So, as I wrote it, I thought to myself "a spoiler would be really useful here." Plus, once people have read it, next time they would go to that page of the thread, they wouldn't have to scroll all the way through a mammoth post.

You have to click "Insert..." then "Spoiler" and enter the text into a popup. The process seems annoying so maybe it should be made easier-to-use and readily available so that people actually use it.

Ah, yes. I looked but didn't seem to see it - though I didn't look that hard, I must admit. The insert icon is not terribly intuitive.

This is what I should have started with. This community has been great so far; I've experienced no negativity. What you guys, and all the members here, have built, is fantastic. I'll hit 13 days at 6pm PDT. :)

Woo! Also check into a more accessible mobile version of nofap if you can. You can't see counters at all for some reason unless you go to their profiles info.

I don't like that I get alerts of any thread I post a comment in. I know there is a manual solution to unwatch them but commenting in a thread doesn't necessarily mean I want to watch it. In fact most of the cases I am just throwing my opinion.

That kind of stuff is pretty customizeable here: http://nofap.com/forum/index.php?account/alert-preferences

Hey, I want to have that bar that other people have where it says for example: "Haven't MO'ed for [certain number] of days out of 90" or something like that. I really don't know how to get one.

Is it possible to get a "gay" category under Journals?

That is a 3rd party software called PMO-Tracker by @CrazyGopher, an epic developer who continually does awesome work for the porn-recovery movement. To add your own counter, click another user's and follow the instructions there. We should also make this more clear for new NoFap users because we get this question a lot. CrazyGopher wrote up a FAQ which will be put into the rules / FAQ thread.

While I am adamantly supportive of LGBT rights and initiatives to make LGBT feel more welcome here, I worry that might make people feel segregated rather than integrated with the community. Thoughts?

Also once we get the Groups feature online, hopefully somebody will re-start-up the LGBT and Gay Men's groups that existed when NoFap was running on vBulletin.

"While I am adamantly supportive of LGBT rights and initiatives to make LGBT feel more welcome here, I worry that might make people feel segregated rather than integrated with the community. Thoughts?" Yeah I was going to say that. No offense bro, but I also believe if Gay people are advocating to be seen the same, going off and making a group just throws a huge wall in between supporters and non-supporters. I was going to say that the first time I saw this post, but didn't want to be called a homophobe.

I understand that concern. I don't want to separate myself from the others but would be nice to have occasional conversations with other LGBT folks. Similar to how women have a place to go on here but they can also participate in the other threads as well.

I think the thing is, however people feel most comfortable, is what will lead to their own success. Your points have validity, but this site isn't about social progress, per se. It's about accomplishing an objective, for each individual, that is something very personal, and often uncomfortable to discuss. The same way that (at least places I've lived) the Landlord-Tenant Act basically allows you to discriminate against tenants on any basis you feel like if you're actually sharing the living space, I think we should accommodate people's comfort zones, whether they are rational or not. We should not tolerate hate speech, etc., but if someone feels more comfortable, and might have more success, being able to talk to a specific group of people, why block them from doing so, as long as they're not hurting anyone else?

I agree with your points but just think that the user-created Groups function might work best for this, rather than a forum section for journals. We had a really good community "Gay Men's NoFap Group" by @Blue before we switched from vBulletin -> xenForo and screwed up the database transfer, losing all of that. Once we get groups going again, do you think those will be good for different groups of people, especially LGBT, to connect with each other?
