Ground zero again. So discouraging! I am going to try to replace PMO with daily exercise. Any success stories with exercise anyone would like to share? Any other tips and tricks from the professionals out there? Success doesn't seem real in my mind. Relapsed to many times...Would like this removed from my life so badly; until the overwhelming urge comes back of course.

    Hi Ready2Bfree,

I saw your post and have something small to comment on in terms of exercise. I am struggling with PMO in my life yet that isin't quite what this is about. I used to have a drug problem and I used exercise as a means to overcome my addiction. I literally value exercise over ANYTHING else in terms of my recovery. I am a regular jogger now and would not swop exercise for any substance. In terms of PMO, and any related stress, I can guarantee that not only will exercise serve as a healthy substitute to PMO but it will help you so much with handling negative thoughts in a slower more controlled fashion. It serves as a great way to reduce tension and basically if you're super tired from a lot of exercise the desire to PMO will be greatly reduced.

Exercise is possibly the best thing you can use to enhance your life. I never use to do it and now can never imagine a life without it.

Start small but stick it out. After like 3 weeks the habit will have set in, you will have an alternative source of dopamine and PMO WILL reduce.

    I wish you well!

Strength24: I could not agree more. Exercise is quite often the distinction between relapsing and not. Always have something better to do than sit around, gradually becoming more and more bored. That leads to no where good.

If you're struggling with finding a suitable replacement in exercise for PMO or just generally don't know where to start, just PM me or one of the other guys and I'm sure one of us would be willing to help out with a beginner routine or something along those lines.

Some different kinds of exercises that you could maybe consider are:

    --Weightlifting
    --Yoga
    --Running
    --Team or Individual Sport
--I'm also going to include meditation in this list simply because it exercises the mind better than anything else I know.

Again, if you have any questions just PM me or one of the guys here and we'll try to help you out as best we can! Stay strong!

    @ c-l-a-s-h, and Ready2BFree,
    Hello gentlemen,
This is my first post and right up my alley. I am a personal trainer and would like to offer my 2 cents. Execise is great to take your mind off PMO. I recommend two things, 1) Don't exercise anywhere near your computer, it will call to you. and 2) I use what's called HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training. You don't need a gym and it's over in about 20 minutes. There are a couple websites with ready to go workouts that I use. The instructors know their stuff and they're usually not trying to sell you anything.
Not sure if I can post them here, so PM me and I'll get them to you.

This is getting really difficult after a week. Thankfully I'm keeping busy but I think the stress of my every day has me wanting to do it more. I have so many assignments due and work all the time. I might try to meditate/pray before I go to bed. How do you meditate? Is it simply the cliche act of sitting and doing nothing with your eyes closed?

I learned to meditate from this article written on an extremely life-changing and informative web site called Kratos Guide: http://www.kratosguide.com/self-transformation-through-meditation/

The article goes through general knowledge such as how meditation could help you, how to actually DO it, how long to meditate, and how meditation can benefit your every day life. It's a very good article. Currently, I'm up to meditating for thirty minute sessions and I'm shooting for twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Basically, overall it's what you described. Sit in the cross-legged position, focus on the flux of your breath - in and out through your nose. You'll frequently get distracted but don't worry about it, everyone is unfocused in the beginning.

But I'd say that what is equally as important as trying to clear your head and focusing solely on your breath is that you must give yourself a set amount of time you're going to meditate for and as soon as you start your timer, don't stop meditating until it beeps. Not to scratch your balls or to swallow the saliva build up in your mouth. You must get used to discomfort and function in spite of it.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! I also recommend checking out a lot of the other articles on that web site, Kratos Guide. Some really good stuff!

    Stay strong brothers ;)
