It’s less intense as a cold shower, but can taking a walk in cold weather like outside, have any sort of similar effect if you go out for 20-30 minutes?

So what's your logic for thinking that walks in the bitter cold do nothing for the body compared to cold showers, if I'm opposed to the latter?

I think that everybody is different. In my case IT WORKS.
When I am stressed (weak, badthoughts, prone to relapse), I only want to go out and find calm. Walking relaxes me and let me clear my mind. Then I come back to the pc or whatever I was doing so I can continue without the risk to PMO.
So, in my opinion walking is a really good way to avoid PMO.

  6. I find walking outside, weather doesn't matter unless it's hot like hell, calming. Of course it will help you with addiction since connection is what does the trick for an addict. While you go out even if you are not going to socialize with the people you still connect to the outside world instead of isolating yourself in front of the computer screen.

Cold showers are good to train your self-discipline and work when your cravings are too much to handle, so you want rid yourselves of them immediately.

  7. As I understood you don't take cold showers just to withstand the pmo. It's far beyond that, you do it to train yourself for getting out of comfort zone in everything.

So, then, walking in cold weather can achieve the same end, right?

  9. I personally didn't start to take cold showers yet, but going to practice it very soon. So my comments will be less credible, but I am just guessing that walking out during winter is something you do anyway. After all you have to go to your work or school, to shop, to hang out and etc. While taking cold showers has an alternative in hot showers. You see my point?

  10. Cold showers and walks outside in cold are different things. I do both, daily.

When u walk fast and in hills, u get hot so the cold effect is not there.

Walks are great tho.. especially in nature

I think the intense cold in a cold shower fires off dopamine and serotonin so it is different. I think outdoor swimming could give the same effect or better.

I’ve been making the last minute of my showers cold since I quit PM in order to work on my willpower. There’s nothing quite like fighting the urge to jump out of the cold water. Walking in the cold is invigorating for sure, and something I really enjoy, but I don’t think it would have the same “run away!!!” effect. Probably depends on how cold it is. It’s pretty mild in the UK but if you’re in Alaska then maybe the effect is similar. I’ve heard that walking bare foot in snow and things like that are good for willpower too so I guess it’s whatever works for you.

  13. I did outdoor cold swimming for 2 years. The difference between cold showers and cold swimming is, that the chance of dying is higher in a river. Ive found out myself, just the moment I thought I have it all. One mistake can get fatal. I can be glad I can type this.

If u decide to do so, do it with maximum respect, knowledge and never alone!

Joining a club is nor only a good idea, but Id say a must!

What if your dopamine receptors are desensitized from porn though?

Surely producing more means more will make it through?
That’s the antidepressant theory, make sure there is more left in the system to get absorbed at some point. Receptors should recover over time

My receptors aren't recovered yet, so eventually the longer I abstain, the more will be able to go through.

  18. When it comes to cold showers the only proven benefit is building discipline. So it is not the same as taking a walk in cold weather

Getting outside (and away from the computer and the privacy of the bedroom) is a great way to break in selfish inward psychological focus of a PMO cycle. When I go outside and breathe the fresh, crisp, cold air, I find it shocks my senses, and I enjoy taking in the world around me.
