How many users have you seen using their own picture for their profiles in this forum?

Almost no user uses his real picture for his profile. Do you know why? Because we are all fake people. We have real world identities that does not show our hopeless real world addiction.

We are fake people, dirty, filthy guys and girls who watch pornography in secret, fap to it, clean our hands and live a lie to everyone.

The thought of this alone makes me want to renew my fight against PMO. I hate hypocrites, I hate fake people, but the truth is that I'm the worst of them all because I'm a hopeless PMO addict and no one knows. No one knows I watch porn and fap compulsively almost everyday.

We must be motivated to quit this addiction for the reason that we cannot continue to be fake.

You are rigth. I have felt a fake so many times in my life. But dont be hard with your self, that wont help. Be nice; everyone who has dived into this addiction has suffered, in part because we are not natural hypocrites, we dont enjoy this fragmentation, we dont really chose it. Porn gets to make you live against your values, that's the power of this shit. Look at your self with mercy and humbleness. The hard judgement to ourselves usually makes us fail easily.

I don't think I've been fake with people. I'm not shy about mentioning it. But obviously, there's a place and a time. And you know that some people are going to be comfortable with it, some not. I don't discuss it when it doesn't come up.

    Is shame a bad thing?

The problem is not enough people are feeling shame.

The media and social sciences have told us that shame is a bad thing.

I am ashamed at what I've become and I want to change

Good grief. Don't talk for others unless they want it. Stop rambling. You dont know everyone here. I understand your point. This doesn't mean I agree how you are using it.

You aren't a fake. You've just realized that porn addicts, like all addicts, are pretty good at lying.
Save the intense descriptions (hopeless...fake people, dirty, filthy guys and girls...) They are not true and secondly they won't help you deal with your problem. Wallowing in shame ("I'm a fake!") will lead you right back to PMO, I guarantee it.
Use your energy to strategize how you will deal with this serious problem. Getting away from PMO requires some strong, serious thinking. You aren't the worst of all people. Ever heard of Bernie Madoff or Jeffrey Epstein? Trust me, you aren't at their level.
You are human. But you have a problem. You need to deal with it. Rationally. Good luck.

It's generally a bad idea to ever put real information on the internet, even pictures of yourself. Also, if you go around saying "I jack it frequently" to every person you shake hands with, your life will get worse, not better.

Usually people can talk openly about their issues only with trusted or beloved ones. They don't want to share their story with whole world and this is okay. A lot of people starts to speak under his real name and at this moment insincerity begins. I don't need to know your name - it does not matter. I would rather know your story and doubts and everything you can share only when you feel comfortable. I understand that people don't want to share details about their life with everybody, because they are afraid of stigmatization and judgement.

Do you know why we as a society are hypocrites? Because everybody has their own problems and others pretend like it is something abnormal. We stigmatize mental illnesses, homosexuality, transsexuality, weakness, poverty and so on. People laugh at man with depression, they say he is weak and unsuccessful. In consequence, the next one don't want to admit his problems.

Being anonymous make a safe space to share thought and doubts for a lot of people. It is totally okay.

Even if it was a real picture, people wouldn't trust it. People tell their heart when they feel safe to do it, and there's nothing like the internet for people to talk about how they truly feel.

Practicing what you preach and anonymity are two different things. There is a reason why the most popular addiction recovery program has anonymity as a foundational principle. People are not going to share anything if they feel like they are going to be ostracized, some people are in a position where things like their career and their standing in the community could be at risk if word got out about their addiction, even if it doesn't have an impact on how they could do their job etc.

You can say telling the truth about this is good, but that act in itself also doesn't make you someone who practices what they preach - which is exactly the problem of addiction in the first place, it is compulsive and people cannot stop.

I think it's less about identity of whatever kind in the real world as it is being willing to show up, and there is a matter of hiding behind the computer/internet. There are face to face sex addiction groups that people can actually go to. I'll bet you people who have gone to more than one kind of recovery group find it hardest to go to a SA meeting, I know it was for me. Online it's still not face to face, it's a picture of your face. If you go in person you can still have anonymity and go further than just posting a pic, which is also foolish given privacy issues already mentioned.

You may want to look into the distinction between shame and guilt. Shame has to do with your sense of self, guilt has to do with deeds and behavior which we can change.
