Not a fanatic of any vegKind here and I don't try to moralize anybody. But here's my opinion. First, antagonizing vegetarian or vegan because a few of them are annoying is not a valid argument for continuing meat eating.

Meat industry is catastrophic for climate change.
Eating meat is way more expensive then other sources of protein which are also healthier.
And yes, like it or not, most animals are bred, overfed in an horrific environment, then slaughtered. Bred to be slaughtered. Also, dogs and cats are nice. But you do know that chicken, pigs and cows are intelligent and formidably able to seek affection? Ever heard the crying and mourning of a cow who just gave birth than got he baby stolen? It goes on all night.

I agree, the taste is good. But, the cost is really too high. Also, once you quit, the urge of eating a good beef/bacon/cheese burger fades. Don't trust me? What do you think you do with you porn urges and your nofap challenge... rewiring your brain. Changing your habit and your body's taste and expectation. Did i say a gain of energy also?

Human is omnivore which means you can survive on both diet. Btw, you can still be a foodie since there are so many alternatives nowadays.
Hope you don't bash on me and that you'll try the vegeburger or a vege recipe for a change.
    Respectfully.

I honestly don't think they suffer as much as PETA says they do. Even if it's all true, I don't care. The only reason those cows, pigs and chickens are alive today is because we bred them for eating. That's the name of the game. Until I see one of them run a lathe or pickup dry cleaning, it's the frying pan for the lot of them.

I'm like you, I don't like those extremist groups.
Ignorance is bliss I guess. You should watch some of the actual farm footage and decide for yourself if they suffer. It's hard to look at the abuse and not see them suffering.
That's exactly true, the only reason they exist is because we breed them to, because most people don't know or understand where their food is coming from. This stuff is hidden because it turns people off and it's nasty, but it's the truth. When we buy meat, it increases the demand for breeding them. We can all make a decision to cut down how much meat we eat or even cut it out completely.

Here is a speech given by a pretty cool vegan guy at a university:

Here is a documentary about the abuses:

I don't see why their intelligence really matters, it's the fact that they don't want to die (and usually suffer) that matters. The less abuse and suffering we deal into this world, the better it will be for all of us.
Even if you don't care about them, do you care about your own health? Processed meats like burgers/hot dogs cause cancer, heart disease (the number one killer in the world), and chronic diseases in general. It took many years for our society to recognize tobacco as a problem and we are slowly realizing that meat is the same thing. The World Health Organization has classified processed meats as a class 1 carcinogen (known human carcinogens proved by science), in the same classification as alcohol/tobacco/asbestos/uranium. That's CRAZY! It's amazing this stuff is still being sold, but that's what addiction is (ruining our lives even when we know it's not good for us). Also, the longest living civilizations (called the Blue Zones) are primarily on plant-based diets.

It basically boils down to do you care about saving a life (even your own), or satisfying your taste buds.

Sorry for the long post, but I actually care very much about this topic because we are seeing America become more sick, more obesity more cancers, and more heart attacks. None of this needs to exist, it's the biggest hidden addiction of all time

You're absolutely right. But, we're not in a survival mode. There goes the ethical questions about why we breed animal and make them suffer .. and many other reasons. When we definitely have alternatives .

  7. I was a vege then vegan for decades, and it honestly made me ill, and I ate very healthy, I ended up seeing a specialist and came to understand that some things I couldn’t get from just plants, like omega 3 etc, and yes I know quinoa etc, but it’s no where near the same quality. If you ask body builders what’s the best food groups, they will (and I know there’s exceptions, but they make the rule) always include meat.
The meat 2 veg diet has been the longest, tried and tested diet we’ve ever known
I totally agree with you that something has to change regarding battery farming
But I also don’t think the ‘vegan fights meat eater/visa versa agreement is good enough, we all have to compromise to come up with solutions
I mean, imagine if vegans got their way, who the hell would look after the animals, look at the state of cows in India
And also the vegan movement is a very first world, majority white movement which has caused a globalisation on vegan produce in places like India so that they can not afford things like coconuts anymore
Most vegans have to take supplements to stay healthy, that’s says to me its unnatural
I agree people eat to much meat, but a lot of the stats that vegans use to argue don’t show the whole picture, because vegans generally lead lifestyles, yoga, etc, different to meat eaters, ie meat eaters drink more alchohol etc, so often meat isn’t the cause of their heart problems
I came to a realisation that who am I to know what this body needs, and after doing my own research made an informed desicion to be healthier and that included meat
And yes this planet does involve pain and destruction, just me and you having the freedom to have this convo on what ever smart device we have is the result of other people somewhere around the world suffering at our expense, you can’t avoid it. If you live in the 1st world, you have blood on your hands, vegan or not

Hi Manchild, maybe you were not eating properly as a vegan. What did the specialist say was wrong with you? Omega-3s can be found in flax-seeds/chia seeds/walnuts/almonds/canola oil and should not be a problem whatsoever. Most people are not bodybuilders, so that would be an exception, and even then there are vegan bodybuilders, so even though it seems like a reasonable argument, it just doesn't make sense in reality.
I think it's great that more people are cutting down on meat. Better farming will mean more expensive meat, and that doesn't make sense business-wise. Even better farming still ends up with a killed animal, and that is not humane no matter how you think of it. It's like telling someone you love and care for that you will end up killing them to eat them, but you will do it humanely.
If everyone was vegan, it wouldn't happen overnight, it would be a gradual process, then there would be less demand to breed animals, does that make sense?
India is basically vegetarian, they're almost there...
Most vegans only require 1 supplement, vitamin B12, that's it, and you can take it once a week, very cheap and very easy. The reason for this is B12 is made by bacteria and since everything is clean and sterile now, we don't get that B12. They inject it into meats/animals so that you can get your B12, that's not very natural either. Neither is the hormones/antibiotics/other chemicals they put into these animals.
They have studies comparing non-alcohol drinkers that eat meat and don't eat meat and the meat eaters get more heart attacks - It's called the Adventist Studies.
It's all about reducing harm where you have a choice, and you have a choice to have animals killed or not, or to be healthy or not, or to ruin the environment or not. It's not sustainable to be eating animals the way the world does now and into the future, this is according to the United Nations.

    Humans are herbivores.

"That's right. Humans have characteristics of herbivores, not carnivores or omnivores — because omnivores, like bears and raccoons, actually retain most of the carnivorous characteristics, so that they are still able to digest and hunt their prey, and do so effectively."

Go ahead and try to counter it. I already know what the objections are and in my eyes they are invalid.

I don't hate anyone here btw.

    How biased is this poll?

Yeah, OP created a very bias poll, this is the choice I had to choose to represent:
I am a vegan. I hate everyone above. Mushrooms taste like steak, especially when they're magic!
OP implies all vegans hate and do drugs. I don't hate everyone, I was once a meat eater myself, but after learning/investigating/studying I decided to do less harm. In fact I love more, not hate more. Never done magic mushrooms, but wouldn't be opposed to trying once :p
If you're vegan, I encourage you to still vote for the biased choice. I'm just curious how many of us there are on here

  16. You made some interesting points earlier, I totally agree with cutting down demand, and I still stand by what I first said, it’s easy to keep throwing studies at each other, and they both can be manipulated to suit. I have no problem with vegans doing what they do, just don’t tell me what I should be doing......
Everyone chooses their own fights for what they think is right, my focus is more towards human rights, but you’ll never see me roll my eyes at someone using an iPhone just because I know the suffering behind it, I live within my own morals
I goto India a lot and the impact veganism in the west is having is pretty horrific
Again I think the only way foward is compromise
Not the ‘get them to understand how stupid they are’ approach
    I don’t think I’m right, like, I think you’re right aswell
People are always going to be vegan, that’s cool, but a compromise would be to grow your own produce to stop globalisation of food
People are always going to eat meat
We need to find a middle road in all this

Thanks for the acknowledgement. I'm not aware of the impact that veganism in the West is having on India, could you explain that more? I searched for it and didn't really find anything either.
I never called anyone stupid and that's not my goal, again I mentioned I used to eat meat, but after learning more, the answer became pretty clear after that. I do think people are ignorant because they don't understand much about the meat they are eating, but I never said and I don't think people are stupid.
I agree with growing your own food and gardening, of course it would be difficult to grow everything you want to eat.

For me, I can't make a compromise, because eating meat in moderation is like having strokes and heart attacks in moderation. Or killing in moderation, but that's just me...Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think if I can have some control over what can possibly kill me, and avoiding the #1 killer in the world (heart disease), that would be ideal for me. At the same time, I get to improve the environment and reduce harm in my life. It's a win win win, doesn't get better than that.

Human rights is an important issue too, but this thread was about food. We can care about many things, and we usually do, it doesn't mean we can't care about animals too.

I heard a quote that was interesting, it went something like "A person who eats animal flesh has a stomach that is a graveyard, a person who eats plants has a stomach that's a garden"

  18. What’s your view on abortion? Is this a no compromise aswell?

  19. The thing about India and prob Africa also is this
The price of jackfruit, coconuts etc in western supermarkets is the same now as in India
Like, the price has gone up in India because of the demand, sellers can get, at first more money for it in the west, now they won’t sells cheaper, globalisation of produce, capitalism

  20. This is the part I find most difficult, and I believe to be the problem
    Look at Palestine
Both parties really believe they are right and have strong arguments
No compromise just ends in pain for humans
