What do you think about masturbating only with sex toys?

I recently ordered a male masturbator because I'm curious as to how it would work on my journey. My reasoning is it should reduce the need for fantasizing and porn, and keeping masturbation in my life could make cutting out porn easier. Also, while the toy isn't huge its fairly noticeable and not just something I could use in bed discreetly(I sleep in the living room so I rarely masturbate in there nowadays) so I may end up using it less in general.
On the other hand, sex toys provide more physical stimulation than your hand and lube, as well as a partner even sometimes. So is trading mental stimulation for enhanced physical simulation really the way to go? There's also the obvious possibility that enhanced physical stimulation won't be enough for me after a while, and the dopamine rush of a sex toy + porn will get to me. I wanted to know what the NoFap community thinks about this. I could always return it as long as I don't use it obviously.

For you to get rid of porn addiction you need to forget sex, man. It shouldn't be normal in your life to be dependent of sexual pleasure. You are locking yourself in a cage. Sorry, but I can't see this strategy working.

Probably this is not the "NoFap community thought", I am way more radical in terms of Rebooting. Masturbation with your own hands is already vicious, it means you are a slave of sexual pleasure, now you are buying a toy to be even more comfortable with the addiction?

I can't conceive a worse decision. This is my opinion.

I used to think of masturbation as something completely healthy, as long as it is not done in excess.

Recently, I've learned that it's not exactly like that and one needs to abstain from masturbation as well to get rid of a porn addiction (which is why I'm doing that right now). I still believe that after recovering, it should be OK to masturbate as long as you don't fall into addiction again, but maybe I'll change my point of view again once I get there?

  4. I’m sorry man but return the toy or throw it in the trash. Even using your hand is better than buying a toy to whack off

@Benedicti @khabastos Appreciate the responses. As far as forgetting sex, that seems a bit extreme. Its one thing to not be sexually dependent(which I'm not) and another thing to completely eradicate your life of anything sexual. Maybe that works for some but I don't think complete abstinence would work for me. And yeah, I think trying this after I actually can go months without any kind of stimulation is the way to go, if anything.

What you're asking us is the equivalent of asking a group of alcoholics if taking some beers from time to time is ok.

If you have a problem/compulsion/addiction with PM, I don't think doing only M is going to heal you. To get rid of our problem, we have to "repair ourselves/our souls" and learn how to get pleasure from other healthier places.

Oh trust me this was far from the first place I looked when I asked this question. The people on this website are obviously coming from a position where they're more likely to reject any implementation of anything involving P M or O. If I only consulted nofap about masturbation that would be bias. But I figured I'd get some input here anyways. I don't think PMO is 100% unhealthy the same way alcohol or certain drugs aren't, we just got the short end of the addiction stick. But its clear I'm not one of those people that can just enjoy it a couple of times a week and go about my life fine so you have a point.

It's not about forgetting sex, it's about being willing to forget sex, sexual pleasure and lust.

And why are you between us? We are addicted people, our addiction is sexual pleasure. Of course you are. You ordered a toy. A woman in this forum would probably be terrified seeing this. A lot of addicted women fed their addiction with toys and that's your solution?

I said for the purpose of Rebooting. Of course sex is a important thing, sex is what build families and societies. But until you're addicted, feeding sexual thoughts or sexual sensations will not be effective to get out of this.

But people start Rebooting for a lot of purposes and maybe yours is not the same as mine. So it is possible that "my" strategy works only for some people, which is an embrancing strategy and aims all domains of life, not only sexual life (like getting rid of ED, PE or something like that).

In my opinion, no because of porn flashbacks in my mind that makes me want to PMO and relapse. That goes out to creating my own fantasies too that is called FMO. I'm doing my best to have full recovery.

Well, to me is even worse than alcohol or drugs, because you don't realise about the negative effects it exerts on you until it's too late to be easy to simply quit.
I never took drugs, never smoked and never had any problems with alcohol. P (and above all) M and my fetishes were my only drug.

I don't consider myself an addict. I only didn't know better, it's been many decades with my problem ... I falsely thought that was part from who I was.

I have quitted some months ago but never had this so called flatline or had any withdrawal symptoms. The same happened in my previous 5month streak.

  13. It depends on what you're rebooting from and what you mean by healthy and sustainable. If you are recovering from compulsive M, then don't M during the reboot process. You might be able to M after.

If you are NOT recovering from compulsive M, then you can probably M, idk.

I couldn't care less what a woman thinks considering female sex toys are by far the most popular and they're usually the first ones to demonize men for using said toys. But I get your point, its probably not a good idea.

That's unnecessarily condescending for a reply on a forum of people trying to help each other reach said 90 days.

@All For One I already returned it. But your passive aggression is just...yikes. There are more cordial ways to say you disagree.

It wasn't passive aggression my dude. You can do whatever you like with your life. It's good to hear you went back on your decision though. I am genuinely proud of you.

I hope you the best. Stay strong.
