What is the Metaverse?

I personally have no problem with "the metaverse", although that term came out of nowhere to me. Never heard of it until Facebook changed their name. I always thought of it as a virtual reality universe that existed within the internet. Like the matrix.

Also I'm really into sci Fi and cyberpunk so I'm pro-virtual reality. We can build new universes within a shared connected space (internet). It's headsets now, but if you've seen the Neuro link that Elon Musk is helping invent, you can easily imagine a future where everyone can connect to the internet directly through their mind and "enter the matrix" (well I guess the term now is metaverse...) Our smartphones already act as a portable gateway to a connected universe, just through an electronic screen.

Will it be good for humanity? Were smart phones good?... Yes and no... No one will force you to use it, but it could be fun. Could be addicting and yes people will waste their lives using it but other people will continue to live in the real world.

 

We're already fucking the planet up so much as a species maybe it would be good to just start building stuff virtually. It would be a lot better for the forests and critters.

 

U can build a universe but its only virtual when you disconnect its just a mere illusion, nothing will change in the real world. Unless u are a being of complete virtual i guess u must live in the real world

 

I mean yeah, of course it's not the real world. technology will progress and the graphics become more realistic, and even I could imagine artificial intelligence operating within it, growing and designing the "metaverse" without human interaction. I'm talking at least 10-15 yrs for basic version of this. Imagine 50 yrs.

It's basically a parallel dimension. It's "real" in the sense it can be built and interacted with, but it's of course not physically real. I'm not saying we should forget about the earth around us.

The technology will be bad for people like us, as we use things like porn to escape reality already. I'm sure VR porn will be on another level.

 

Agreed man thats why i try to exercise to limit my usage of smartphone bit by bit, i see it everywhere they so attached to their phone. So many of my friend boasted about their achivment on video game, and so what? Their real life isnt getting better by doing that and by metaverse it will be worse , they said it make imagination comes true lol not all people have healthy imagination ,

 

Metaverse = Pornverse

 

Think about all the bullshit social media, porn, and all the other electronic media caused until now, multiply it by a million factors. It is the final step that humanity will enclose itself totally to a virtual world.
