What Music Do We Like?

Hi everyone!

I just joined NoFap a few days ago. I am a music journalist so I couldn't help but wonder what type of music everyone listens to. Anything from genres to artists, albums, or even guilty pleasure songs!

To get us started, I am a huge RNB/Hip-Hop head. I also love classic soul, even the turn-of-the-century neo-soul stuff. I do not listen to a lot of rock on my own time, but I am heavily involved with my local scene which has a ton of those artists. I am a younger guy (20) so I am huge on some of those younger artists.

Some of my favorite projects from the last few months are the new Mk.Gee, NxWorries, Clairo, Malcolm Todd, that MIKE and Tony Seltzer collab, and Hiatus Kaiyote. Let me know your picks!

I like all sorts of music: classical, contemporary, rock, classic rock, alternative, indie, Americana, bluegrass, country, hip-hop, r&b, soul music, doo wop, pop, classic pop, movie scores/soundtracks, cultural music, religious spiritual music (chants, gospel, etc), electronic/techno, LoFi, etc.

Some artists I've been listening to lately are Benjamin Tod, The War on Drugs, Petey, Skinshape, Nolan Taylor, L'indécis, 53 Thieves, and Black Marble to name a couple.

I'm into metal, rock and pop. For metal, I like Dragonforce, Lacuna Coil, Sabaton, Wintersun and Archspire. For rock, I like the White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine and Skillet. For pop, I like the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Nsync. Metal is my favourite genre, though.

Music tastes are specific. I like Blues and I have no idea why. A lot of it is so similar, but I’m here for it. New Orleans style piano Blues (Professor Longhair, Dr. John, James Booker), guitar Blues (Snooks Eaglin, Brownie McGhee, B.B. King), horn Blues (Louis Armstrong, Hot Lips Page). Newer Blues is great too, but I don’t know much about it. I just let Pandora dictate what I listen to, and stay aggressive with the thumb down button.

I've nearly given up on listening to music. I like to listen to nostalgic video game music when I need some pleasant background noise to work to. Other than that, I really don't miss it. I know I am an odd duck on that one, but it's good to know oneself. Ironically I am also trying to learn the guitar, but I mostly just practice with sheet music, not really trying to learn songs.

I don't think this is odd. I used to listen to music all the time, but I found that less is better. Music pulls on the emotions, which isn't always the best thing for an addict who's easily led by their emotions.

Video game music is still music! Some people pretend it isn't because they think it's odd to listen to that, but I've met many similar people. Plus, a lot of music has come out of video games. Jungle is a big one I like to think of when citing genres heavily influenced by video game soundtracks.
