What quitting porn taught me (1 Year)

You know how other posts say it’s more than just the addiction?.. They were right, going from 3 times a day, to 1 year of not watching porn, I can confirm there’s more going on in our life than we would like to admit,

I’m not trying to give you a life lesson because It’s difficult for me to understand what you went through, but for me, all I needed was to reach out and get the hell out of my home, my addiction went away as I reached out to counseling services, and they all said something like this

  • Challenge the hot thought, find evidence that proof your worth
  • Eat more consistently
  • Move and act rather than wait for the motivation
  • Have empathy towards yourself
  • Showing emotions is not weakness
  • Sleep sleep sleep,

I understand many of us are isolated, I’m socially isolated as well, but after talking to people this list came to be, and quitting porn wasn't as hard anymore since I'm working on some of the things on this list

Big help to my success was journaling occasionally, I wrote 3, since letting things out makes space for recovery, and it all comes down to this;

Baby steps it's the secret to anything, really, things started to unfold and make sense.

one other thing
Watching just YouTube isn’t going to solve it at least not for me, it helped me understand and learn more yes but it's the feedback that made me transform.

I like this right here. Allot of people turn to Youtube for answers but it’s not going to solve all our problems.. I’ve seen so many health channels and it feels like they just want you there for them (like, comment, subscribe, yadayada ) not the actual knowledge which some do take full credit for.

It seems like the channels that take full credit focus on the answers them selfs. lol

But congrats! I remember rebooting in High School and the my routines were just taking up my time. They do help allot and self help.

Thanks for sharing bro! I have nothing to add. You have some helpful tips in here that I can implement on my own journey.

Thank you for that note. In the beginning I thought it was for the physical high... and it was.
Then online porn arrived and it became abundantly clear if Playboy was a beer... then online porn is crack. It's the porn that I struggle with. And I'm not certain why... It may go back to what Ron White said... "if you've seen one woman naked....you want to see them all".

It's the dopamine biofeedback loop now and it's a matter of replacing it with something else. I'm on the road to findout....

Leaving the family home was the best decision I ever made for my personal happiness and peace of mind. I'm glad to hear it has helped you too.

Also huge congrats on the milestone. I hope to match it come 2025!

Hi, all of this is very inspirational, glad you posted.

What do you mean by this?

Thanks! I went to two different counselings, and they introduced an important concept that caused huge progress in my life, it's called knowing the hot thought, and challenging it.

  1. Basically write the thought you often tell yourself, and know is completey true, but it's wrong, on the top of a page, (ex, I don't deserve food, I'm not a good person. ect.)
  2. then write under it all the evidence that proves that thought wrong, write as many things as you can, it really did wonders to me. hope this helps!
So great that you have done 1 year and in the process becoming a better version of yourself.
Thank you! I'm sure you'll get there in no time.
Congratulations! Hope to meet you there.
Try your best Sammy, I'm sure you'll be there, it takes good time, I still don't feel like I quit porn honestly, the urges are still there, but I got a better hold of myself, at least so far :)

Thank you, I have felt this way many times and I think I should start doing what you mentioned. Luck to you!

My advice is to Download porn Blockers and Don't give yourself access to open it even if you want to.

It's 7 day today . If days could become weeks then I guess weeks could a month and month could become a year . I have to try because all starts in you . If you want something and you better believe in yourself because this isn't an easy path at all . A week is a big improvement .be happy for your self . A year is a great success. But that only happens if you believe in you . Ask yourself who am I

On top of that, I found that many channels related to self-improvement and health give advice on a very superficial level without going deeper into the subject and often times their suggestions are the same. Only a small percentage of the content is useful.

The appeal is that it's easier and the path of least resistance to listen to one of those profit-oriented videos instead of reading a book on the same topic which may not solve your problems but can provide a way more exhaustive answer and perspective.

Hmm... those are good ideas... I've tried that... and it just makes me have to go through more hoops to watch it... I need to just get this monkey off of my back. I've done it with other things... This one is tough because I've used for so many reasons before. So it's a chemical issue along with being a habit modification one.
