Talk to Him (or Her or It or whatever you conceive God to be). Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to talk back. Ask Him whatever's on your mind, or in your heart. Say please, say thanks, and put a good word in for me!

I don't think the concept of God existing can be proven or disproven. It is like saying that somewhere in space there is magical piece of string, you can't prove that there isn't a piece of string.

I would argue that God definitely exists 100%.We do not need to see something to be certain of it i.e gravity,my brain, the wind. Proof for the existence of God is in the Qur'an :
"And it is We Who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We Who are steadily expanding it. "(51:47)

This is one of the many scientific miracles of the Qur'an.The fact that the universe is expanding has only been proven recently by Edwin Hubble"This notion was confirmed by the use of observational data in 1929. While observing the sky with a telescope, Edwin Hubble, the American astronomer, discovered that the stars and galaxies were constantly moving away from each other. This discovery is regarded as one of the greatest in the history of astronomy." How could a fact like this be in the Qur'an when historically it is proven to have been revealed 1400 years ago, when telescopes and such didn't exist?

I know so many philosophy majors who have converted to Catholicism from Protestantism.

It is clearly the best form of Christianity for naval navel gazing! :p

Yes, as no doubt is suitable for a culture that arose from the Mediterranean. The poetry of sun, surf and sea infuses everything. Contrast that to the cold, stony northern castles of reason.

    Oh you!

It's not that I hate phenomenology, it's just that I feel on the verge of murdering the next person who brings up any kind epistemological paradigm.

    I'm agnostic as fuck.
When dealing with overzealous religious types, I turn atheist.
    Just to piss them off.

'No, God doesn't love you. No, Jesus didn't died for your sins. He had no idea who you were, at the time.'
You know, those kind of shenanigans.

Also, I'm not interested in starting a fire here. These are just my opinions. Feel free to ignore them.
We all have a place on this Earth, whether you believe in God or Vishnu or a sacred cow or Xenu the Allmighty Reptilian.
I prefer Odin, because that guy really did what he said he would, in his campaign.

Sorry to be so long getting back to you. I took some time away from the internet to get me past a couple of nofap rough spots. I found this directory for you http://www.thecatholicdirectory.com..._directory&country=DK&absolutecity=Copenhagen I don't know if I got your area right, but I think this should be correct. If this site doesn't work for you, googlemaps can sometimes be a good way to find one.

I want to start a new conversation based on what it is being discussed here. If you are a non believer, agnostic, atheist why do you want to give up masturbation. In my catholic religion, masturbation is really looked down upon. I guess it is the same for for Muslims and Jewish followers, but if you are not bound by any religion I would like to know why do you want to give up something that is so pleasurable. Keep in mind I am not advocating for MO. But I am curious to find out why non believers will engage in such a painful and difficult battle. In the catholic faith the teaching is that sexual pleasure is reserved exclusively for marriage. Any activity outside this status is forbidden. Do you think the position of the Church is unrealistic ? From what I read here in many instances after heavy MO , some men can not perform with their partners. Is this their only fear? Is PIED the only reason they have to move away from MO. I am just wondering and I would like to hear from all of you. Have a nice day.

@incredulo: if at all relevant, you should start a new, separate, thread for this -- perhaps quoting the initial post of this thread.

To me, the answer to your question is fairly clear, per the guiding principles of this secular NoFap.com site, which -- if I understand correctly -- are fundementally centered around:
    • porn-induced damage to relationships and sexual dysfunction, as supported by empirical/scientific evidence.
    • opposition to objectification of people, ... etc., based upon "secular-morality"

I am also Catholic, and I think you ask a good question. From a humanist perspective, there is a lot to be said about virtue and vice, where virtue is understood to develop our potential toward excellence, and where vice would be the disruption of that. I guess classical Greek philosophy would be the model of that. It's interesting how the Church is in continuity with certain aspects of classical Greco-Roman culture.

From the modern scientific perspective, I think there is more difficulty in understanding why PMO is wrong. Little wonder that P has proliferated. If we do not have free will, if we are automata, if life is determined by natural forces, well then, whatever goes, goes.

And yet, at the existential level, it doesn't. And so it is at this more 'post-modern' level that we see a resurgence of resistance toward vice. The reality of our inner lives simply finds it can not cope with wallowing in it day after day. We intuitively know it is destroying us. We look for a way out. From a desire for dignity and freedom we assert ourselves. Everything else becomes secondary. We begin on the task of reconstruction. And that task may involve not only the reconstruction of ourselves, but also the rediscovery of an ancient heritage. Perhaps they are the same thing, where we go full circle, where the individual is no longer alone at the centre, but on a circumference revolving around something, and part of something, a life so much bigger and grander that belongs to all.

I've found that abstaining from fapping really improves my mental health.

NoFaps helps me develop my ability to be present in the moment

Whether one is fapping to porn or fantasies, it's an escape from reality. Perhaps you could say the same about movies, books etc. But good entertainment gives you lessons or new perspectives on reality, I don't think that could be said about porn/sexual fantasies. And fapping rewards the escape from reality with a massive rush of dopamine, which I believe conditions the brain to go into fantasy/daydream mode more often instead of being in the present moment.

    Fapping creates disappointment

Fapping gives you a dopamine rush but scientific studies have shown that orgasms we get from masturbation are fundamentally different from orgasms from sex. Sex gives you other benefits, like oxytocin for example, which you don't get from fapping. You have usually felt disappointed after fapping, haven't you?

In addition to that, I've found that fapping makes me more disappointed about my life in general. Instead of accepting our lives as they are, fapping to porn/fantasies teaches our brains to escape reality. It's essential for good mental health to accept life as it is, but of course I'm not arguing against taking steps to improve it.

If you fall into a river, denying it will make you drown and complaining about it doesn't help. You must first accept the fact that you have fallen into a river, then you can swim to land.

    Fapping makes me lazy

With fapping you reward yourself without making any effort or taking any chances.

Those are some of my reasons for doing NoFap.
