What time period would you most like to live in?

I've noticed a lot of people on this forum idealize the ancient, simple lifestyles present in the stone age. It makes sense, given that porn addiction is so synthetic and terrible that ancient life before then can look pretty tempting in comparison.

I personally would choose to live in Athens, during the time of Ancient Greece. But I'm curious to hear what different people think. If you could pick any time in history, and any place in the world to live in, which ones would you choose?

I haven't met a single one so far... lol

I wouldn't choose any other time to live, because given my relationship with bad luck and misfortune, I would probably wind up being in a lot of trouble if I lived in a non-free society!

As boring as it might sound I would live in this time period, here and now, humanity has never had a better time of it. Work is going into eradicating many of the horrible diseases that plague humanity, where many have already been defeated. The terror of nuclear annihilation is more or less a nightmare of the past. Society is doing its best to clean the dark stains of its past that now corrupt the present. Is it perfect no however the only reason that people typically idealize different time periods is because they fail to understand how horrible things were in other times.

I agree. Definitely would sign up to live at that time and place as well. Another choice I would take would be Florence or any other prosperous Italian city during the renaissance.

When you're in a pool of shit, it will look like there's a little bit less shit in the pool next to you, but once you climb out of your pool and into the other one, you'll see that it aint any better.

Through my short life I've been in some seriously awful situations. Now I happen to be the type of person who gets easily lost in nostalgia and in the most awful moments of my life I have found myself being nostalgic over awful times in my past. That's not because it would have been any better back then, no, sometimes it was way way worse, but because my pain in the current moment feels more real, whereas the past pain is something I know I already got through.

This and some of my philosophical stances has led me to believe that when people wish they could live in the past, it isn't because they'd actually be any happier, but because they have difficulty accepting the challenges of the current moment and appreciating everything that's good.

So I'd rather live in the now and learn to deal with the fact that there will always be challenges and hardships for us to face, than get lost in daydreams about how back in the day everything was just rainbows and sunshine.

I know I know, such a grim answer to a light-hearted thread. :D
