When did we become so judgmental ? [Rant]

As people, living in the 21st century, through all those years of evolution, where we would get eaten by a saber tooth tiger if we got out our cave, we have learnt to be pessimistic about ourselves. We have learned to approach any positive as a sign of impending doom. We have evolved ourselves like this for our survival. We fight our daily wars and think we will be fighting them again. And again and again.

I think with porn addiction there in lies the problem. As guys, we want to fight this addiction but the moment we hit the 3 week or higher stage (when officially we are supposed to be over it) we start looking for signs of relapse. In fact , even at day 3 right now for myself I feel like a relapse is about to happen (hence this post). But when we are so vigilant of this relapse, telling our brains again and again that we are not going to do what it wants, our brain keeps fighting back. For example, try telling yourself,”Do not think of the pink elephant”, “DO NOT thinking of the pink elephant “, “DO NOT THINK OF THE PINK ELEPHANT!!”. Invariably you (and I) imagine the pink elephant.

I think the solution could be in acceptance. Accepting that I am an addict. I want to watch porn. Sorry brain I know you want to but I can’t. I am really sorry! I love you though. I am doing it for myself. For the greater happinesses in life. So sorry but I do love you brain.
