When you fall, how do you get back up?

    Hi! I have been struggling really hard with this addiction lately. I've been trying to do no PMO now for 4 months, and just when I got my first 15 days streak, I relapsed. Now since the relapse, I've been masturbating for three days in a row. :(

    Now after my longest streak, it feels almost impossible to start no PMO again. Today was supposed to be the day I start again, but I failed since I saw a porn advertisement while browsing the web.

    Never before after a relapse have i had this long streak of relapses. Usually it have been max. 2 days before getting back up, most likely only one day. I'm desperate, what can I do to stop this going worse? Don't want to lose it now since i already got to 15 days from 1-2 times a day.

    My problem at the moment might be that I have take few exams really soon, so I spend my days studying for them, and meanwhile I'm stressed, and i become tired and bored pretty easily, and when I'm bored and tired, I have a little willpower to fight the urges.

    I'd really appreciate if someone could give me some advice. :)

    Cold showers. Try perhaps studying in the library or outside of your house. If you can study without using the computer, that would be ideal. Try setting up a penalty program. Every time you have a relapse, make a committment to give away 5 dollars to charity. I've done that before. Makes me think twice before relapsing. You could also set up some kind of reward system for yourself when you do manage to go on long streaks. Reward yourself on the 20 day mark, the 30 day, the 40 day mark etc. Even more importantly, constantly remind yourself of the negative consequences of PMO. Write a big list and put it in your room. Next to it, consider writing a list of all the positive things that enter your life when you don't PMO. I've done this, and I find it helps a lot.

    Try going outdoors and make exercise. Find relief in other things when you're tired of study. Maybe go study in a public place.

    I followed your advice and now I'm on 1 day streak again (and really soon 2 days)! I went to study to the library, didn't take my laptop with me and had almost no temptation at all. I also took a cold shower in the morning, and did push-ups later in the evening when i got tempted. Thank you guys for helping me out! :)

  5. First don’t beat yourself up about a relapse. They happen. Dissect why it happened, learn from it and move on.

    You have to replace bad habits (porn and masturbation) with good ones (exercise, social interaction, hobbies etc). Stress will happen and if PMO is your coping mechanism, you have to get a better one.

    I'm also replacing my bad habits now, I'm dropping of course PMO and also most of Videogaming. I've replaced them with dancing lessons, spending time with my friends, playing guitar and I also bought few books to read :)

    These new hobbies have helped me a lot, but there's some days, when even those hobbies won't help much because the urge is so strong (Usually happens at days close to 7 and 14 days streak). However, I'll keep trying and I hope I'll eventually succeed :).
     
  7. That’s a good plan. 7, 14, 30 and 100 are the days I’ve noticed urges hit hard. Keep dancing and strumming.
