Who else is going through a really shitty time right now?

  1. Intrusive thoughts are the worst, it'd make me feel a bit better to know I'm not a lone with this shit

  2. I had suffered from those a LOT when I first started nofap. They tend to come in waves. I don’t get them very often anymore.

You’re not alone. I started having intrusive thoughts a couple years ago and they’re pretty consistent now... you kinda just have to learn to not let them phase you at a certain point.

  4. Same exact story..holy shit. Can years of porn really do that to us, or are we just fucked up?

Intrusive thoughts? Absolutely!! I suffer with lots of mental torment and I’ve read that porn addiction has a lot to do with it.

For me, personally, it correlates more to my bipolar and a specific incident I had a couple years ago, but I’m sure porn doesn’t help.

The intrusive thoughts for me are dark, sexual things that I would NEVER “really” think or act upon luckily, but they are still there nonetheless. It sucks... and it’s a silent, invisible struggle. But maybe with time they’ll fade away.

I know that some of my intrusive thoughts have indeed gone away. I used to have really uncomfortable images and sensations of being cut, but I dont get them anymore.

Anyways, yeah, its fucked up and not fair.. but you’re not the only one.

I’m afraid not. Especially if you’ve been doing this for over 20 years. I’ve been told that things will get better over time so I hang on to that hope.

  11. Yup same exact fucking situation, I feel relieved hearing this..thank you. It's weird af cause there's probably not a label for this besides that it must be porn induced but yeah I got adhd so it's hard to control my thoughts as it is..ha I'll keep you in my thoughts as we both fight this invisible battle.

Anyways, yeah, its fucked up and not fair..

    You can say that again

I’m certain there’s a link between my porn use and my severe anxiety issues. It seriously messes your brain up bad.

  14. Since I stop watching porn, intrusive thoughts have still not gone away. I don't like to be around people because of that reason.

I definitely found a couple tricks that make it easier.
The first is to set a very clear, doable and specific goal.
The second is to go on "Jesus-Mode", where you don't allow yourself to look or think on anything in lust.

I wanted to go 90 days hard mode, but even that's not specific enough. Instead of merely wanting to go 90 days, I calculated the exact date I must go until so that "starting fresh" is no longer a valid option. Now when the addiction attacks, it has no way to bargain at all. I just have to restate that date until I win and the addiction retreats empty handed.
Lusting over anything during hard mode is not a release, it makes your job harder. It's perpetuating the same mental patterns that cause this addiction. Taming your lust is really the core issue behind porn addiction. So no peaking!

  16. I never felt worse before. It‘s been a week since my last relapse and I still struggle with it. I feel weak and my body hurts.

I was told that these thoughts are not you. You are not your mind. You are not your thoughts. Become an observer of these thoughts, like watching the headlines in the news, passing by. Step back and watch how they come to you. Then you can change them by thinking about the things you want to think about. It works for me, also jumping straight in a cold shower can disrupt these intrusive thoughts

  19. For what it's worth, I'm absolutely going through a shitty time right now. Honestly I'm feeling pretty discouraged with pretty much every area of my life. Don't have any words of wisdom to share with you right now OP, but just letting you know you're not alone in the struggles.

  20. I have had the same experience. Sometimes acting out can make you feel temporarily better, calmer - but there's like a backlash effect where over time it makes you feel worse. I believe there is a positive way to look at all this though. It is likely that for some of us we use PMO as a kind of anti-anxiety self-medication. So noticing this means that we have uncovered something at the root of our dependencies, and which we can start to address with more positive methods. I have been doing a lot of work on managing anxiety, depression, and OCD - and although I'm having a bit of a rough time right now, I have more faith nowadays that I will get through it ok and get back to managing these issues better as I continue to heal.
