Why are we more prone to get negative thoughts at night?

It could be that it's more quiet and we're trying to go to sleep and nothing is happening. Idk what do you guys think? Yesterday was rough, but everything is fine for me right now. Could past night time habits cause negative thoughts? I used to stay up really late gaming and I used to have this stupid thing where if I lost I would pmo, but most of the time even if I won i would pmo anyways.

I'm going way off topic, but looking back six months from now I'm totally different even though things don't seem different. Haha I'm almost 100% sure that's a quote I've seen on the panic button.

For the most part, I made this post to try and find reasons for negative thoughts at night. It's so much more difficult to change your mentality once you start snowballing these bad thoughts. Anyone have any tips?

Because it's the only time during the day when we are being left alone, just us and our own thoughts
and I also think that it has something to do with the fact that it's more quiet (as you mentioned).
Now, about the negative thoughts -
Our thoughts are usually being triggered by something that has happened to us during the day/week/month
(if we experience smething good than our thoughts will be more positive and we will feel better about ourselves but if we experience something bad like a breakup for example than our thoughts will be negative)
