Why blocking porn websites just won't work

After scrolling pages and pages of guys asking for tips on how to block pornographic websites or something of the same genre, i'm going to tell you that even if you do it, it won't make you quit it just like that, i remember when i was very addicted to it, i would always find a way to see some sort of images / videos, either using google images, browsing on instagram etc, the only way that would ''work'' would be totally cutting yourself from the internet, which i don't think its realistic in the era we live, and i don't think its necessary to overcome porn addiction.

I believe it should go from your discipline, if you currently follow any page that tempts you to relapse on instagram / youtube etc, unsubscribe / unfollow it immediately and block it if you wish.

Another tip is to know where do you usually watch it, in your bed? Using your phone / laptop? Recognize the patterns and avoid those situations, for example if you watch porn before going to sleep, turn your phone off put it in your living room for example and go read something instead before sleeping, might not work as ''shield'' towards it but it will make a difference for sure, and don't forget to limit your time online during the day.

I seriously hope anyone reading this will make it out of this, remember if you keep trying sooner or later you'll overcome this, if you give up forget it, its over.

Agree with you. Blocking isn’t the ultimate solution. I don’t even block PHub... but I don’t even visit it because I have self control. However, recently I started using dns to lock search engines into safe mode and by default it also blocks P sites. This is so I don’t accidentally come across things that are P in nature, and also to remind myself not to be curious looking things up. So far it’s working for me. When the engine says “can’t display result” because of family mode then it’s a reminder not to go any further.

You are absolutely right, blocking porn sites without you even understanding why you've done that isn't gonna make any use.
Once you fully got the idea of why you should abstain from porn, no blocks will be even necessary.

That's a better alternative imo, making it harder to access it can prevent a relapse but its not that effective for some people, good job anyway

It's hard to abstain from them depending on how addicted people are to it, but i'm sure with perseverance they will get there, and blocking the websites won't make it a lot easier imo, but at certain points can prevent some little relapses

For me, blocking porn sites is useless. But as someone find it useful for him, there is no motive to discourage him. Some people have it as a reminder of to not watch porn, and some as a barrier that will keep them away from porn for some time, until the urdes dissapear.
Even with the same goal, everybody has it's own most adequate way.

True, but i think people focus too much on the blocking instead of preparing themselves on what to do when urges kick in, that's when stuff gets hard

Certain ads can trigger and give you chaser effect. Women in real life on the street don’t do that for me, but online ads can because people know how to trigger a man with ads... you know those random ads of woman in your city looking... if your tension is built up and you might be watching something productive and then an ads shows up, chaser effect might come knocking on your door. I don’t M to P. And even though I don’t visit P sites, I still need to watch out for these random and provocative ads. Not a problem on my computer, but mobile has no way of completely blocking ads.

What a world we’re living in.

I agree with much of what you have shared, @Agent The best porn blocker is, ironically, your mind, in my opinion. Reflecting and avoiding technology as much as possible! If someone were not in the depths of a city I would suggest spending hours and hours outside doing nothing, just siting there and watching the life of the trees and animals. The brain is surely going to get used to being without triggers.

A lot of truth in what you say. At the same time, blocking porn has helped me overcome strong, sudden urges in difficult situations, when my will power is depleted through stress, exhaustion, irritation, frustration and disappointment.

I agree that will power is key, but being honest with myself, I probably would not be in this situation if will power in all life situation was my strong suit. So I have two browsers now, one working with several porn blockers, including some very aggressive Machine Learning ones + most dangerous websites are blocked via my Router as well as dedicated website blockers.

The second browser is my noFap browser where I have material on porn addiction open, this forum, motivational tabs etc. It's also equipped with basic porn blockers, but I can search for anything (once I turn off safe search). But I would need to go through this barrier of anti porn pages and thoughts first, and this is a strong filter for the moment. Coming here daily and reading, writing here helps me more than anything in the past.

But yeah, what worked for me the strongest (and mind you, I'm only on day 6 of my current streak, but never felt as confident as now) was making this conscious decision to quit porn, masturbation and self induced orgasms for good. @Phatal Phantom has helped me out here quite a bit when my first post started with questions regarding how to block porn efficiently and he basically laid this out to me. Thanks, Phantom

All the little things together makes someones defence stronger. A blocker alone is not the solution but it could help someone out a little more. In my view they do work.

I'm glad to learn that my post had been helpful to you. You're most welcome.

i am sorry but i disagree, blocking has been a HUGE help for me.

you ARE right that there is a lot of crappy services out there that don't do the job right, but it's like finding a crappy sales person that sells cars that sells you a car that doesn't work and declaring that all the cars are useless.... you just have to look until you find a good car.

use Qustodio for android, use pluckeye for windows and use screen time for apple. here i have saved you 100 hours of search in the internet, you are welcome.

Oh yeah that's true, depends on what type of apps you use in your phone tbh and how private you are, i avoid using my phone most of the time because i can do more things with my pc instead, but if you use your phone a lot make plans on certain apps to avoid those ads if possible

Sadly most of us can't avoid internet most of the time, its with us everyday, but we can try and make different choices and what we do when we are online, that's my tip for everyone, its hard but be careful where you go when you using the internet

I agree they can prevent some relapses here and there, but i don't think its where we should project our confidence at

That's great to hear, i do not discourage anyone to use blockers if they feel the use to, maybe my posts can sound a bit contraditory ahah, you are going in the correct path and if you feel that is working for you i'm happy to hear, everyone has a different mechanism to avoid urges and i can't talk from everyone's prespective, thanks for sharing and good luck brotha
