Haha Ben Carson and Rick Santorum would beg to differ on that. While I agree that banning P sites would never happen - it's one of those tricky 1st amendment things- I think that P sites need to have higher accountability in regards to minors watching P. I had been watching for years by the time I turned 18. I think if there was a way to hold P companies accountable for exposing minors to P then we would see a better turnaround for P addiction.

Let's not forget the .xxx TLD war that has been going on years ago. That was to put all porn websites under the .xxx TLD so they are easy to manage and block.
"The P industry" and free speech advocates never let any legislation get past to force all adult websites to be registered under that tld.

let's not pretend that the government would ever do away with its best source of bread and circuses.

A lot of porn is banned and already is that dark area of illegal activity. Many on here know how easy it is to get that banned porn. But making it not accessible through a general search engine could help. Accessibility is a huge factor that causes relapse. I believe the age of the smart phone makes it even worse for porn addiction.

I was in the same boat as you. Even had my own pages in some alternative dating websites by 15 years old. Had real pictures of me posted too.

now when i think about some of the websites that i visited i realize how dangerous it could've been. i guess we live in an overly sexual society. everything is about sex sex sex. n nothing else.

maybe some of it should be banned.

there is too much of sexualization around. losing virginity is given more importance than getting good marks or getting a better job. pressure of likes on facebook n more number of friends is more important than having one friend whom u can trust.

brands take priority over whether its affordable. style is over comfort.

people are trained not to think for themselves but rather confirm to the society.

In the USA, where I live, the government can't just "ban" pornography. We have freedom of speech, protected by the Constitution. The law allows prosecution of "obscenity," which is legally beyond the bounds of protected speech, but such prosecutions are difficult, and make many Americans nervous, because we value free speech. Sadly, the USA is the source of most porn. I am sorry about that, but I am for free speech. I agree with the ".xxx" solution described above.

  8. I don't belive that... Clearly there is a huge amount of pornography that is indisputably obscene by any measure... The laws are not being enforced... And as to free speech, it's not as popular as you assume... All this nonsense around micro aggression, safe space, and the ever growing shadow of the politically correct.... Is all an attack on free speech of a much milder form... It would be interesting to apply some of that to porn...
There are also weird definitions of what constitutes rape. The US definition of statutory rape with a 'minor' defined as someone under 18 is pretty out there by European definitions.... Yet in some European countries there is a definition of rape I believe that is something like forcing arousal in a minor... And allowing minors access to porn certainly fits that. It makes more sense to me then pretending a person is completely incapable of consent the day before their birthday and fully capable the day of... Shit we shut down businesses over selling tobacco to minors, have tough restrictions on driving and severe penalties facilitating consuming before 21... Yet exposing them to porn is somehow 'their' responsibility..
Anyway all that being said in the end I guess, as an adult, I prefer to live in a free society and take how I use my freedom seriously rather than a state that takes decides and contrils what is good for me or not...

Using the analogy of a recovering alcoholic, I feel I have to accept that porn is not going away, not in any meaningful sense, any more than liquor stores or nightclubs are going to close down. I don't believe it's going to help my recovery or help me to get recovered or even just feel better to crusade against it.

Oh, right. I don't know what the best viable solution is for protecting children. They're learning about sex from internet porn now and that's a fact. And it's a tremendous problem to be sure.

Jack -- I am not disputing that laws are not being enforced. Nevertheless, I stand by what I said about the difficulty of obscenity law. I suggest you read about Miller v. California and its 3-part test.

Protecting minors should be the priority here.
