Capitalism creates an unhealthy pay inequality, with CEOs and businessmen/women getting paid MUCH more than their workers who actually do the work. In other words, theft from the middle/lower classes occur. Wars were also fought for businesses, like the invasion of Iraq and other unnecessary things. Lastly, there are many uncontrolled monopolies that are created, like what Amazon is doing.

Also, many countries in Europe are doing well, and Australia's doing great with a $16/hr minimum wage.

    So why is it worshipped?

Well, capitalism works mostly because it gives you free choice. You can either work for a company, or establish a company yourself. CEOs will always get paid better than normal worker, since they are in charge of the company. If you aren't satisfied with your wage, you are free to leave to find any other work. The company first principle is to make money, not to be a charity. The moment when someone makes you get paid less when you run a company, is the moment when you are deprived of your freedom. Most of businessmen/women achieved their position through hard work and devotion. Becoming an average worker is just easier than become a CEO. Imagine a situation like this. You build a huge house with your bare hands, you put a lot of effort and work in it, then suddenly someone comes up and says you have to make it smaller because people who worked less have smaller houses. Is that fair?

Also, you mentioned Europe. I live in a European country, in the European Union. Minimal monthly wage is 2000 zł which equals to about 557 $. Now I've read that minimal wage in US is 7,25 $ per hour. Now let's assume, that you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week which leads us to about 1160 dollars a month. Now I know, that you have higher taxes there, health insurance and so on. But we have our taxes too, and I'm certain that you have a lot more money to spend than my countrymen.

Now, let's bring up China. China is the second biggest economy, and the most populous country in the world. Although it is a powerful country, the minimal wage per hour is only 2.56 $. And I'll remind you that this is a communist country. You'd be furious if it was the same for US, wouldn't you?

I don't want to offend you, but I think that you folks in the US got incredibly lazy (assuming you are from America indeed). Don't complain about difficulties in your country, you are still living better than the rest of the world. I read a statement that if every person on this planet would have the same need of resources like an average American, than there would need to be at least 3 planets like Earth to appease it

    ...

I don't even know where to start.

"Actually do the work"? Do you have any idea how being a CEO is like? When you're a CEO, YOU are the top-dog. ANY decision you make, even minor ones, affects the company in some way. Also, those workers who actually do the work, they usually go off the clock the moment they pack up their area and leave.

Why are they paid so much? First, CEOs and executives are constantly on the clock, and they are rarely more than a few metres away from their phones. They need to be easily accessible in case emergencies occur, such as a break-in, a scandal, etc. They never stop working; it's a lifestyle. Many sacrifice the well-being of a family for the work they do, and that's one reason why they get paid so much. Second, it's supply-and-demand. Economics 101. It's easy to hire someone who will pick fruits, or will insert data into a computer; supply's high, so pay can be lower. It's not easy to find a successful CEO who has knowledge, experience and will need to take constant risks. Hence, companies tend to pay higher for their CEOs in order to have a successful leadership.

So, no, CEOs are not lazy people who relax poolside on a cruise ship every day.

Governmental intervention in business? Congratulations, you just described socialism!

    You mean like overtaxation?

Also, how is it theft? The middle class gives a company money in exchange for the product. The company invests that money in their operations, and the middle class family enjoys the product. It's a win-win; no theft involved.

There are many types of monopolies. Apple owns all Mac products; in economics, that's considered a monopoly, though not in the everyday sense that we think.

There's also monopolies because the product is just too fantastic, high-quality or affordable. YouTube is one example; not many other video-sharing sites are as famous. Also, as you mentioned, Amazon falls in here. In order to survive, these companies need to keep their quality and affordability, else competition will wipe them out. Rockefeller's Standard Oil could actually fall under here, even if the government broke it up, due to actually LOWER oil prices it created, which boosted Ford and other vehicle companies.

Lastly, there's the terrible monopolies we think of, such as pharmaceutical companies in America. Ironic enough, many of these monopolies are protected by the government through one of these ways: nationalization, governmental subsidies, overbroad patents, overregulation, lobbyists, or tariffs from international products.

I knew it. Leftists always refer to Europe and Australia for everything under the Sun without knowing a thing about either. Ever since the 1980s, privatization of many industries occurred here in Australia/NZ, and the economy spiked after switching from a regulated economy to a free market economy. Minimum wage is not public ownership, which socialism is. In fact, we’re more business-friendly than America has been recently.

Now, I politically identify as a liberal (NOTE: Not an American/Canadian liberal, who ironically go against the idea of liberty), so I support a healthy free market. If governmental action is required to promote the health of the free market, then I will support it, but many times it’s unnecessary or even unhealthy for the free market.

They are from capitalist nations and they get brainwashed with capitalist dogma in the schools and on television. Of course, they will be pro-capitalist.

It's a mixture of knavery and stupidity in most cases in other it's just one of the two.

There is no perfect economic system because all these philosophies and theories are based on an overlying notion that we live on a planet with infinite resources which we do not lol

It's so easy and convenient to say that one's opinion is affected by being "brainwashed" with capitalist dogma. How could I handle my life if it wasn't for my "Better dead than red" cereal. My world would've fallen apart.

"Why do people think capitalism is always the answer?"

Because greed is patriotic american virtue along with opportunismo_O We shape our societies around it's virtues. Capitalism is perfect for something like united states.

Well, first, no one is "worshipping" the free market. Anyone who is, is a little odd.

Second, what's your alternative? The free enterprise system seems to work the best. That doesn't make it perfect.

Third, "capitalism" is kind of a loaded term, rooted in Marxist presuppositions. Hence my use of the term "free enterprise" or free market.

Fourth, a free market system still has some "regulation" -- i.e., there have to be "rules of the road."

Fifth, if you want to see really capable exploration of these subjects from a free market perspective, search for Milton Friedman videos on YouTube. No one does it better.

Milton Friedman's always a good read also. He was one of my favorites for classical liberal thought.

You think only Americans are greedy? In the part of the world where you live, there is no greed? How about you? Are you free of greed?

I was under the impression that greed is a universal phenomenon, not something particular to countries with a free enterprise system. But I have not traveled the whole world, so there may be places where greed has been cured. Can you share any insights about that?
