Hey, I mentioned this to Alexander but nothing really came of it, I think it'd be extremely useful to have a wikipedia page for NoFap, just giving a bit of general info as it's experimental role in the treatment of pornography addiction.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_addiction

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-pornography_movement

Those are the URLs for the wikipedias on Porn Addiction and Anti Pornography movement. It seems silly that these pages probably get a hell of a lot of exposure (especially the first one since it's the first result when you google porn addiction), and yet NoFap, arguably the leader in online support/therapy isn't even mentioned. Pretty sure you'd see a huge surge in traffic on this site if there was a short description about it and the help it offers.

Anyway, I don't think I need to justify it anymore! I'm only posting this because I have no idea how wiki editing works and was wondering if there was anyone with any experience who'd be up for doing it? I don't mind helping write the summary though :D

  2. There was an article about NoFap once but it got deleted for not being important enough. So I think the main thing is that in order for it to stick, you would have to cite as many media articles as possible (Business Insider, Huffington Post, etc). I think this would be a really cool idea - hope somebody does it!

Awesome, yeah I was going to research the criteria of what will allow the section to stick and what sort of citation it needs. It's annoying as there's a hell of a lot of tenuous links on wikipedia that remain, so it'd be annoying if a reference to NoFap was deleted simply because it's not an 'official' method of treatment.

It might even be better to really emphasise the 'experimental support' aspect, or the idea that it's a growing 'phenomenon'. It seems ludicrous that anyone could even write an article on porn addiction without mentioning NoFap, it begs the question whether it's just because they aren't aware of it. I mean, you do have to be fairly specific in your google search to find us.

So yeah, if anyone has an idea of how wikipedia works, contact me and we can talk about how something like this could work! :D

And if you need a female point of view, I'm here too. Totally willing to help. I think it would be very beneficial to have the point of view of a girl addict, not a recovered pornstar, not a wife, not a girlfriend, just a person who happens to have a vagina and not a dick. Because even though they are very real differences, the addiction process is basically the same. We should raise awareness that porn is as harmful on women than on boys, and not because of exterior aspects such as being an actress or a partner. I mean, it made me suicidal. I don't want this to happen to others.

I agree with Jakob, I think we really should emphasize about how pro-freedom and neutral towards religion this is. I know it sounds a bit like on the Ted talk thread, but it's mandatory to explain that we're experimental and emphasize about how Alexander is (if I'm not mistaken) atheist and how even though doing it for religious reasons is totally accepted, it's not what started it. We also could talk about guys that only do it for "medical" reasons such as ED, PIED, or even acne and hormones.

Willing to help! That would be a great recognition to have this.

^^^ I completely agree with everything you said! :D Definitely emphasising the free and inclusive nature of the community is key to the message we'd want to get across. Welcome on board!

Ideally chase someone with wiki editing experience, but more generally, any ideas you think should go on the page (if it's to be an independent entry) as well as digging up any news articles, as Alexander mentioned, that we could use as citation.

I'm gonna start looking at wiki editing etc, least I can do given all the free time on my hands! :D

I don't know anything about adding to wikipedia, but I'm posting just to show support. How many people view porn? Like everyone. There are countless people who want to quit so bad, but when they google about PMO they are told that its a good way to 'get to know your body', and 'totally normal'.

Its like people are so afraid of others thinking they have a religious agenda, that they are actually being unscientific and inaccurate about PMO.

Nofap is turning me into a MAN! Fapping just emasculated me. I also use to be suicidal too. What a sad reason for dying, just cause your addicted to looking at porn and fapping.

    Go nofap!
