So I have decided to take the NoFap challenge for 2014 and I am currently on day 7, the past few days I have had withdrawal symptoms such cold + flu and headaches, I was wondering how long these last for? As I feel like shit currently, is it true you also feel a lot better after the withdrawal symptoms pass?

Are you sure you don't just have a cold?

  3. I don't have the cold symptoms but I do have headaches, shakes, chills down my spine, twichy reflexes when I try to type, My focus which should be on my work wants to say fuck it and PMO, I have a craving for chocolate real bad and I constantly want to drink ginger ale. Everyone withdrawals differently though, remember that.

It is strange that depriving yourself of masturbation can bring on a flu/cold symptoms and I don't understand that at all. Personally it hasn't been my experience so far, hope it stays that way too. Now cravings I can understand, it's probably a hormonal or chemical issue, sweet things like chocolate and soft drinks release serotonin and dopamine into the brain - those same feel good chemicals which are released by orgasm and sexual stimulation.

But I think the mind plays tricks on itself, the cravings can also be psychological, the self is trying to fill an empty feeling inside, a hollow which has been left when the comfort and relief of the addiction is taken away, it needs its 'reward' (in this case masturbation) and it's not getting it so it feels like it must do or ingest something to take it's place.

Continuing to not give in will send the message to the brain that you don't need a 'reward' that you are complete without it and that it does nothing good for you anyway. To give in to these replacements to your addiction is to admit that there is a hole that needs filling, we need to convince the mind that no such hole exists, nor ever did.
