Would it be bad to masturbate once a week? Not to porn?

I was just wondering because ever since I started I have been having urges to masturbate. Would it be just as bad if I do it once a week without porn?

Seems people here have asked that question a lot. You can find discussions about that exact question on many threads. Speaking only for myself, I am going no PMO and also no MO. P is the crucial part. (I am adding MO because I am married and my wife and I have sex once a week. I know other marrieds where they are not having sex because the relationship is suffereing.) PMO - The entire sequence that starts with porn and ends with bondage. From what I've read from others is that MO eventually leads to PMO. Some say it ALWAYS leads to PMO. You have to honestly evaluate yourself on that. For some guys they go hard mode - nocturnal emission is the only "allowable" orgasm.

I for one do not believe that there is anything wrong with masturbating without porn once a week or so, and is actually probably healthy if you don't have another option for orgasm (girlfriend, wife etc.)

That being said, most of us have really altered our brains due to pmo, including hoe we masturbate and orgasm. That's why I think that it's important to stay AWAY from masurbation during our reboots.

Give our brains a chance to heal before we return to masturbating so our brains and bodies can process it in a healthy and natural way.

How long that will be vary greatly I think, but at least aim for the suggested 90 days and see how you're feeling then.

Take note that I've only ever made it to 27 days, and I am only speaking from my past experiences, what I've read on the subject, what I understand about the brain and dopamine (not entirely too much), and other peoples experience, so take from this what you will.

I think that any method that one chooses to break away from porn is great.
The key is to break away from porn.
I think that it is important to make a clear plan ahead of time and stick to it. Starting by setting achievable goals will help bolster self confidence. This plan must include an exit strategy. What are all of you guys who are doing 90-120 day hard modes going to do when your time is up? I see a lot of conversation about that here with very little solid advice. To quit PMO just for the sake of quitting does not honor one's humanity. Pushing down your sexuality indefinitely seems more dangerous to me than allowing yourself the occasional indulgence in a little self-pleasure. I know that anyone is capable of masturbation without resorting to viewing pornography or even having carnal/sexual mental imagery. Have any of you who say that this is impossible even tried it?

    Please, not this again.

To come back on the subject, I'd agree with albatross15. Masturbation is not unhealthy when done properly I guess. Anyway if you came here you may have problems with it. Personally I could masturbate five times a day without porn for a month, I had to stop it. The choice is yours !

    Well ADC?
    You didn't answer the question.
I'm pretty sure that I didn't diverge from the subject anyway.
I appreciate your agreement with the other things that I said even though you didn't bother to re quote them.

Cause there's nothing wrong with your post except for the part where you say that you know everybody can masturbate healthily. You're not in everybodys head and if I remember well you're not from a generation that saw high definition gangbangs and perfect bodies at 12yo. The difference might be here.

For me, M once a week was like scratching an itch with poison ivy--worked for a second then made me want to scratch a whole bunch more. Had to give it up entirely for me.

Tomorrow it will be once a week then next week it will be twice then three times etc. I haven't tried that in the past but it's obvious. Why is it obvious? Because the day after you masturbate you will have urges to do it because you did it the previous day.

Personally I am trying to stop masturbation and porn forever (currently on Day 10). It sounds unrealistic but if it's possible for others what's stopping me?

Because I know if I masturbate once a week or whatever then I will have urges to masturbate frequently thus ruining NoFap. The urges get to everybody, but you ever get tempted and fall into the trap (masturbate) OR you fight the urges! If I was you, I wouldn't masturbate weekly, I'd try to stop forever (currently ten days in)

Take care of yourself - have a great weekend!

The open ended feeling that shows up when masturbation is almost 'required' is something to investigate. You call it an itch, DivineBeing, and I know exactly what you mean. The itch doesn't persist though, if you figure out what it really is. I actually recommend hard mode. Keep in mind that masturbation isn't wrong. For that matter, neither is PMO. If someone tells me that they prefer pixelated women to real ones, who am I to judge. But then, people like us have discovered the severely detrimental effects of PMO in our own individual lives. I extend the same idea to masturbation. In my life I've noticed that I am half a man when masturbating. No two ways about it. The level of strength and creativity available when celibate is entirely different, and you'll find this idea is pervasive for a reason. I'd say if you want to masturbate because the masturbation feels like an itch you want to scratch, endure some more discomfort and report your results. It will be well worth it. If you want to masturbate, and you've made up your mind, and the added energy and creativity etc aren't really immediate priorities for you, then go for it.

For me it would be worse...

I tried many times gradual withdrawl like once or twice per week but ended up doing more..Also many research tell that cold turkey is better than gradual withdrawal and it takes longer time...In theory it works perfect you are going to be clean for 6 days and again next 6 days but in my case it was too hard to resist the urges when I know I am going to succumb to it after few days..

Thanks anthrope, So far I have been on hard mode and have succeeded. I mostly worried about the saying "Use it or lose it' and i'm only 15 (Turning 16 real soon) and I heard that masturbating was a part of puberty, but i'm not sure about that statement.

DivineBeing - I am 20 years older than you. Trust me when I say this - if I could go back and simply unlearn masturbation, I would, in a heartbeat. It was never worth it for me. Ever.

I've gone more than a year without it in the past, and believe me when I say this - I made serious progress in life during that period. A lot physical fitness and a lot of new friends and a different way of looking at life.

Ask yourself this... there are somethings that you really want in life, right? Some long term goals that you really consider worthy? The chances are that masturbation itself is not one of these long term goals. Now, believe me when I say this - without masturbation, you will develop as a man in a very different way than with it. For starters your sheer creativity will be a lot different. You will just have more juice to operate with. Second, because you are not depriving your system of important nutrients and not finding a short release system to temporarily feel good, you will start developing your boldness muscle, and actually be one of the bold ones.

Trust me - just this much itself, is well worth it. There's a lot more that will be added unto you, but just this itself, over the course of the months and years, will make a very different man than one who has habitual release through masturbation.
