    Hey guys
I'm currently writing a confession letter to my mother, where I will tell her my story and ask for her help. I have realized that i can't break this habit alone and i need some help. I find it to embarrassing to say directly to her, so I will give her this letter. What do you think i should include in the letter? I have already written a bit about how long my abuse has been going on and how long i have been trying to move on, but what else do you guys think i should include?

    Thanks :)

He means the abuse of porn with masturbation I assume. Just like an alcoholic abuses alcohol.

I know that with my mom I can be open about anything and she would accept me. When I reached out to her for my gambling addiction she set up a way for me to get help.

However, when I told her I was attempting to stop watching pornography she told me that was too much information. I'm sure if I really opened up to her and she saw that problems that it was causing she would understand. The way I brought it up was in a joking, casual way so she sort of laughed it off.

I would suggest not to being too graphic in the details. Keep it simple.

    Best of luck,

    - VM

Whatever you think will help! I spoke to my mom regarding it and she was supportive!

I personally think that sharing this with your mother isn't a great idea. PMO is a really difficult thing to give up. I believe that you need to be accountable to yourself rather than to your mom.

The whole parent-child relationship is not relevant here because you've taken an adult decision here rather than a child decision.

But please don't take my word for it. Work this out for you, not to please me! :)

If you want to be accountable to anybody, find another man who is in the same position as you. Or just keep posting on this website.

An exception: If your mother controls the computer, then you could probably do with her help in putting some filters to stop you going back to the PMO. I like OpenDNS and K9 Web Protection.

like the other noFappers here have suggested keep it simple, not too graphic and think about WHY you want her to know? think about how she might feel to learn that you have this problem and if you were in her shoes how would you want to receive the news of this writing a letter is a great way to express how you feel but often if you write it fast and don't think it through enough, you tend to write it more for yourself than for her.

think about how she is going to feel when she reads your letter and why you want her to know you have this problem in the first place. what do you want to happen ? then write the letter in a sensible way explaining mainly how you feel about the situation. don't add any details like how many times it happens or since when.. i would just write why you feel you have a problem and how/why you want to change. write from your heart, not your head. Best of luck to you friend :)

    Blessings,

    RAM

    What a fantastic idea

I would say much of the advice so far is pretty sound. I would encourage you to go ahead because face to face accountability is the best! I suggest you words like masturbation, erection, aroused etc. It may seem more formal than words you might generally use (perhaps, fapping, boner, horny), but it might make it an easier starting point for your mum.

You might want to get the letter just right in a text document, but I would write it out by hand. It doesn't need to be too long or too detailed. The most important things to stress are how ingrained this has become, the impact on you and your emotions and self-respect and how much you really need her love and support at this time. Keep us informed! :)

Thank you for all the replies :)
I'm really glad I made this thread now, because some of the things stated in the above replies are things I did not think about. If any of you have more to add to the thread, please do so. As of right now I agree with IGY, so I will let you know when I have written the letter and given it to her :)
