Addiction is only a symptom. The issue is anxiety and your inability to handle it. Addiction is a shortcut / temporary solution to a chronic problem. The problem with so many nofappers is that they focus on the addiction without addressing the underlying problem. Learn how to handle anxiety positively , and no addiction will take hold of you. Period.
True. You have to understand that all humans have it to some degree . What keeps it under control : strong social ties, meditation, breathing , journaling , healthy self image , self love & acceptance. And if i have to choose one i would say : strong social ties .
True, indeed. First you have to find what causes your addiction, then try to quit it and at the same time solve the problems that led you there. Do it in another order and you'll likely keep relapsing.
Spot on. “The only thing that can take someone down or break you down is internal. Nothing external is strong enough.” — Conor McGregor
Anxiety is a big one but there can be many, many more problems that are the root cause of a P addiction. ADHD, bi-polar disorder, family issues just to name a few.
To be honest sometimes the simple fact that you don't know what to do not to get bored can be enough to start fapping too much.
ADHD & bi-polar has nothing to do with porn addiction. As for family issues please read the reply before yours.
Not directly related, true. My point is, many problems CAN lead to an addiction. I know many people with problems and disorders and nearly all of them develop some sort of an addiction.
My understanding of the addiction is similar to what you express, friend. In the last 1 and 1/2 years I went deep into searching the root cause of the addiction and here's the latest information I have found: https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.p...-365-days-pmo-free.164046/page-4#post-2169527
This is not true. LOADS of people start porn because there is a lack of education and it is seen as normal (part of teen culture) They get addicted because they enjoy it. Lots of people do have underlying issues but I (and many others) do not. There needs to be improvements in education around this.
Absolutely. Although it's obviously true, that a lot of addicts - not only porn addicts - do have underlying issues to begin with, it's not always the case. There are also quite a lot of addicts, who developed problems due to their addiction, not the other way around. There are even so called high-functioning addicts, who don't really have any problems at all apart from not being able to stop their behavior. So, to suggest that all addicts in all areas of addiction do always have underlying problems, is more than questionable.
Guys it is impossible for someone with healthy self esteem to get addicted to any substance or anything external. If you love and accept yourself it is impossible to do or say anything that is harmful to self. This is a law.
Is there any scientific or other basis for this? I doubt it. You can't just magnify your own experience to every other person out there, especially when there are quite a lot of people, who state they didn't have underlying problems. Do you just call all of them liars or ignorant? You must realize, that the world isn't black and white. People get addicted for a variety of reasons.
