I have a Windows laptop so I created a folder "c:\abc" and then I searched for all pornographic and nude videos and photographs on my hard disk and moved them to this folder. This is Step 1 for me.

I think Step 2 for me might be to burn this folder to a recordable DVD and then delete the folder from my hard disk. I might do this tonight and keep the DVD in my cupboard.

The third step would be to destroy the DVD but that's another day's work.

What did you guys do with your golden stash?

This disc is burning right now :) It will be done in four minutes.

  3. My 'stash' was destroyed nearly 3 years ago. Keeping hold of it on a DVD is asking for trouble. I've done exactly what you have done many times before when I though to myself 'no more porn' the problem is you aren't really doing anything about the problem, you're basically just hiding the dirt under the carpet. Sounds to me like you are finding it hard to let go of it so you are making a compromise, but with addiction compromises don't work, you either quit or you don't.

The DVD has failed to burn 3 times. Trying it again now using different software and at a lower speed.

Not entirely sure if I agree with what you're saying. I've been addicted to benzodiazpenes, and also codeine, in the past, and I think this strategy worked for me as a stepping stone.

I never saved any porn to my hard drive, I just watched porn on those porn tube streaming sites (like PornHub, RedTube, xHamster, xVideos, etc).

Looks like my DVD burner in my laptop isn't working so I'm putting everything into a zip file, then moving it across to an old USB stick I don't use, and putting the USB stick in one of my DVD cases in with my huge movie collection (the same case where I used to put my valium).

All done. My stash is on a USB stick inside one of my movie DVD cases. No more pornography or nudes on my laptop.

    Good job Thomas!

I got rid of everything on my computer, files and bookmarks. I still have a few backup dvds and cds that have porn on them, but I'm leaving finding them and destroying them for another day. I haven't had any inclination to view them, so it's not an issue for me.

  13. I downloaded file shredder software and shred the porn stash files so they were deleted beyond recovery. I didn't put them as backup because it didn't work in the long run.

Yeah.. I understand how sucky it is not to be able to bring yourself to commit to a full opposition to something you know is bad. And maybe doing something like this is better than nothing at all, idk.

But ok the big picture moving the P is merely a token action. Maybe it has some value but until it the P is destroyed you aren't going to be free. I can't say with certainty that the weaning / tapering mentality you have won't work for you, but along with a lot of other posters I have never seen a long-term successful recovery using such a non-commital approach.

From my experience the most likely outcome is you will have some haphazard progress but sooner or later will keep relapsing until you're sick of PMO enough to detach from it and adopt a zero tolerance mindset.

I say this last part from observation as well as personal experience being stuck in a similar rut myself for quite a while, not with the intent to judge your character. Wish you all the best in moving forward with our recovery.

  15. Burned it. Then bleached my beau so I wouldn't remember the video names. Then tried to kill Google so I couldn't find them. Then broke my fingers so I couldn't type.

Mate... I can't really figure you out... Moving files from your computer to some portable device doesn't make sense to me, it's moving one problem to another ... Your here on this website for help right!?... So... How about getting rid of all porn temptation so that's a good start of recovery... Put your hand up for help & we can get right behind you... YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

I have constantly deleted my golden stashes, bookmark paradises, I always delete them because they come back to trigger me, I used to hide them in obscure folder but they would constantly appear when I was looking for something else.

Burning them on a DVD is asking for trouble. When I was around 17 I went through my older brother's CDs looking for game I wanted to play and this game was on a blank CD, I inserted a CD managed to find his entire stash, it sickened me to the core. Putting that DVD in a cupboard? What if someone else found it, could you look at yourself in the mirror?
