The main characters do things =/= the show promotes these things. It's like saying A Clockwork Orange promotes violence.
I liked Vikings. People saying there is only sex and violance in movies and TV shows, no, there is every kind of stuff to watch, there are so many people with so many tastes and desires, I personally like everything from comedy, to horror, to cartoons. Just let people enjoy what they love dont be so concerned about it.
I like it. It just shows how horrible world can be. It is good reminder. After spending some time on dark web you will see game of thrones as kid movie. To further my point. Getting desensitize to seeing violence can be beneficial. Naive people with pink glasses on tend to freeze or panic (or develop serious mental problems) when they are faced with violence in real life.
I love seeing controversial topics on television. TV is better now than it’s ever been. Do we really want to revert to the cheesy, corny, wholesome garbage we had back in the 80’s and 90’s?
LOL So shows in the 80's and 90's is garbege? Yeah I guess if shoes don't show people getting raped and slaughtered that makes it a bad show great phisophy genius and no I don't mind seeing killing obviously but these shows way over do it and if you think that is normal then your insane. I saw a seen on vikings where they raped and killed a French farmer family then left the dad alive with his eyed gauged out. Is that supposed to be normal?
Well I didn't expect it to get that bad usually I can deal with shows that have some gore in that but these shows defenitely over do it that's for sure.
I still remember watching that episode where the young stripper that reminded Tony of his daughter got beaten to death for no reason by that one guy, Ralph? That one stuck with me. I used to love stuff like that but I don't watch it anymore. I did watch all the Boardwalk Empires a couple years ago... It was good but I'm over it. I think the more we choose to overstimulate ourselves with blunt entertainment like ultraviolent television the more we densitize our minds and the less we are able to enjoy more simple pleasures in life. I don't watch much TV, but I'm sick right now and I'm laying around watching Cheers. Quality entertainment!
You're probably right. I've not really watched Vikings but really I don't think this is all new. Sure there was a period when we had a moral clean up of Hollywood (in the 50's I believe), but if you look at the stories that were told centuries and centuries ago you'll see that they didn't keep things clean. Like in the Bible there's this story about a woman who gets brutally gang raped. The rape is so horrible that she dies from it. The story gets even more gross but I'll spare you the details. This was probably originally written in 550 BC, so none of this is new, it's just that we see it on a screen rather than reading it.
That's exactly it. The horrors of history are incomprehensible in their scope. The mongol hordes just to name one. We are incredibly fortunate to not have to witness such things first hand, and I no longer have any desire to bring it into my living room. Bringing these HD visuals into our lives are far more traumatic and leave a much stronger impression than reading about them. There was a paper that estimated something like 8 percent of the men in a large region in asia were descendants of Ghenghis Khan, something like 37 million people. I can read that and it effects me one way, but show me the graphic representation of just one of those rapes and I'm going to get stressed out.
