Hi everyone, I hope you're all thriving!

I'm a sophomore in college and I have just begun to realize that I have a major issue with PMO. It started when I was 12 and has been impeding the quality of my life and those around me for over 8 years now. It's a huge time-suck, makes you feel shitty about yourself, makes you physically exhausted, makes you run late, ruins your GPA, ruins your sleep, runs up your water bill (long showers), and ruins your social-skills due to internalized self-disappointment.

For much of my life, I have dealt with depression on and off and I realize that when I am abstinent, the depression is diminished or eliminated because I have more energy, am more productive, and am proud of my lifestyle and accomplishments.
When I sink into streaks of PMO for a few days a week, multiple times a day, it's crushing to see the side effects. The time-management in my life goes out the window and my sense of urgency and positive attitude are crushed. I see myself as a failure.

But when I abstain for a few days from PMO, I have a heightened sense of awareness of my surroundings, exercise more, produce more quality work, and have more gratitude for my life and the world around me. I open my eyes to the fact that I have lived a beautiful life in spite of typical life challenges. I see that I am usually a kind man and have no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed of who I am. I realize that I DO have loving friends and a compassionate girlfriend. That I can be a force to improve the lives of others. That I can achieve success in my career and break out of a cycle of bad habits that cost you your future.

I believe that we are souls who live in bodies that God lends us. I don't need to crumble for irrational urges. I am a soul, not a body. My body is sacred, but it's just where I live, it isn't my identity. It's time to nourish my body and soul through abstinence.

I am here to improve myself. I am a component of the universe, so by improving myself, I see it as a step towards improving the world for everyone. If I live a more righteous life and produce better work, the rest of the world will benefit from my actions.

I'm ready to see the bright side again and live a better life. Thank you for existing. I am beyond grateful for you and look forward to this marathon.

  2. Hey angelwrestler,
    Welcome to the NoFap community!
Thanks for sharing. Admitting you have an addiction is a great first step towards freedom.
If you haven't already, check out this information on rebooting. I've found it helpful in knowing what to expect.
Feel free to message me or anyone else here with questions or if you want to talk.
Best of luck during your reboot.
    Again, Welcome!

  3. Hey, whats going on Israel ;)

Your story remindes me so much of myself, and I think you have the right attitude coming into this. As I'm sure you are aware, this is quite possibly one of the hardest things to overcome, but it comes with the greatest reward. And it seems like you have seen the benifits of how steping away from PMO has changed your life already. Just know that as long as your resolve is strong, no matter how addicted you are you can always break free.

Check out my journal thread if you want to know a bit more about me. I started out posting regularly but my life is demanding more time of me and its been harder to write the blog style posts I used to, but I still have some good tips on there that got me past the 30 day mark. Now im shooting for the 90. My link is here: https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-journey-to-adulthood-nofap-and-freeform-jazz.143534/

I would recomend getting an accountablility partner. A close friend will always work better than someone you meet online, but if that is not comfortable for you then you can always find someone on this site.

Anyway, you seem like a great guy and I wish you the best on your journey.

  5. One of the ways I got involved with the fellowship was by reading some really great journals.

I've included journals from all age groups, spiritual members, religious members, secular members, male and female. You should find journals that help. If not, look around, there are hundreds of others from which to choose. When I say "it works if you work it", reading journals is part of that work.

Once you open a journal, click "Watch Thread" in the upper right of the page to get alerts when new posts are made. Here are just a few:

There are many more, and you can discover them on your own. But, these are great places to start.

This is a work in progress. So, if a journal has changed or is no longer active, look around there are some amazing journals on here.
