Here I am!

Discussion in 'New to NoFap' started by Prophet Isaiah, Feb 21, 2018.

  1. Hello everyone!
First and foremost, thank you for this amazing site and this... challenging opportunity.

I am an Italian Ph.D. Student, 27 years old, and unfortunetely I have been watching porn online since I was 14. At the beginning it was an occasional thing, but in the last few years it has become something more serious and disturbing.
Last summer I have discovered the NoFap community and in these last months I have tried to start a rebooting process without signing up to the community. After many relapses, as well as reading some insipirng posts on NoFap, I have realized that it is important to use a "everything or nothing" approach, so here I am.

The two main bad effects that porn has been having on my life are:
    - the lack of concentration and satisfaction; to this extent, I do belive that the problem is broader: I have to limit my use of social media and internet. But for sure, porn plays a great part in it.
    - as a consequence, the lack of satisfaction.
    - the effects on my ability to connect with people. I am lucky because this ability was not compromised, since I love my parents and family and I am blessed by the friendship of some amazing people, but I know that sometimes I tend to imagine people as they were porn actors, or simply I am less calm, less lucid and less positive about many different cicumstances.

This is day 0, my first challenge is a 90-days PMO abstinence and I do wish to able to never go back to porn, even once the rebooting process is complete!
By the way, I feel great already, because yesterday I confessed my addiction to a close frined, and today to another. The prospect of talking about this, and to call it addiction, has been daunting me for weeks, but it was actually easier than I expected (and I realized that years ago I had already spoken with a couple of friends about it).

    Welcome here!
Yes, is an addiction, and if we start calling it by its name, we are taking a big step forward.
Many people can casually see porn and have not a problem with that. We can not! We tend to start from a soft point and then increase the intensity of the images, chats, etc anf frequency until the addiction takes over our lives with it.
This place is the place to be if we want to succeed. Congratulations

  3. Hey @Prophet Isaiah ,

Welcome to NoFap! You are in the right place.

I'm just a regular member on here, so take what I say as my experience. I found that I needed to:

    1. Learn the NoFap program.

    2. Get involved with the community.

The best resource I found was the “Getting Started with NoFap” guide. It is on the NoFap homepage and you can download it for free from this link https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-users-list-of-rebooting-resources.50878/

    Then, watch this video:

It is really good and explains so much about how the blasting of porn images into the brain in high definition on high speed internet while slamming porn sounds into the ears with headphones can literally change the way your brain demands sexual stimulation.

The video explains it better than I can.

Also, a great page is https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-users-list-of-rebooting-resources.50878/ my experience is that by reading every link and watching every video, I learned so much.

Then, I got involved with the community. I'm not anyone special on here, I don't have any magic powers. But, I can say hello to new members, post my journal entries, remember to “like” peoples posts, and offer my experience, strength and hope where appropriate.

Looking forward to seeing you around on the forums,

    --> L

PS - Think of pmo like a wolf. Stay near the center of the group with the winners and the wolf has a more difficult time finding you. But, stray near the edges of the community and the wolf can pick you off.

Also, here are a few journals to get started reading. See who they follow, see who is posting on their journals. You will find friends on here if you put yourself out there.

Welcome @Prophet Isaiah ! I know that takes some courage to make yourself vulnerable and tell someone about it. When I first did it, it was a huge weight off of me, and I felt even more connected with them...hopefully you felt the same
