    Dear my friends,
I want to ask about the effect of playing video games and wonder if someone in the community can answer these questions.

    • Is playing game consider an addiction? Does it create dopamine effect, same as porn?
    • One of my friends plays video games for around 7-10 hours in one single sitting? Should it be considered as an addiction?
    • Is there really some benefit in the long-term by playing video games, like improving cognitive functions, as some people suggest?
    • Are there any visible negative impact of playing too much video games, such reduced eye-sight (assuming staring at the computer screen for 10 hours continuously can seriously damage your eyes), and less social interaction skills (means making new friends who have different taste than you)?
I would be glad if someone who plays or used to play video games can answer.

  2. It is considered as an addiction yes. I think i've heard it creates dopamine effects but i'm not sure.
7+ hours a day is definitely an addiction, considering he probably has school and work aswell...
People have said this but idk if this is true.
Only thing i can tell u is that i started gaming 10+ hours a day from age 7. I'm 17 now and everytime i go outside my eyes burn/hurt for the first few minutes.

  3. Why do your eyes hurt? I game a lot and never have a problem with my eyes, are you playing in a dark room with no light on?

I don't know about the supposed reflex benefits or whatever things researchers talk about, what I do know is that games are a hobby and just playing them doesn't mean you're addicted.

Do you do the necessary chores and responsibilities in the day? Or do you put everything off to just play games? Another one to try is don't play anything for a day or even a week, see how your brain reacts. If you're having withdrawls and can't do the stuff in the day that you're supposed to then one would assume you're addicted.

  4. I have been gaming since 2012 and have over 10,000+ in gaming combined. I've played all sorts of games from casual like Minecraft to more competitive like Mobas and let me tell you it has ruined my teenage life. Last year alone I spent over 2000 hours gaming. If someone you know spends over 6 hours a day gaming and can only talk about games, its an addiction. I lost over 40 pounds last year from not eating that much cause I game so much, and now I have bad social anxiety and it's hard to relate to anyone. It's a huge waste of time there is really no benefit unless you are a top league player in your game or a youtube/stream personality (usually only the top 50 players). It, however, has no affected my eyesight but has defiantly hurt many many things in my life including relationships with family and friends.

i feel the same, i think i turned to games to escape how i felt in that moment. I would usually go play my xbox the moment i came home, ignore my homework and as a result it affected my grades at school. I could only socialise and feel comfortable with the people i talked to online. I would avoid confrontation with people in person in any way i could and i never realised after finally selling my console 2 years ago now how that thing connected me with my friends so much. Without it, we kind of drifted from eachother as i would go over to them and they would be talking about stuff they did the night before online. While i can't add to that conversation whatsoever. So we ended up becoming distant, fortunately though i met an entirely new group of friends that have helped me to go out more and more and do things outside and have generally made me a more responsive, outgoing person that goes out a lottt more often than he used to.

Alsooo yes to watamote, tomoko is the cutest

  7. I really don't know mate, I play 8 hours a day or so but used to play up to 18 hours and never had that problem. I even have sensitive eyes as well, to rule anything out have you had an eye exam in the last couple of years?

  8. No i haven't. I know my eyes are not as good as they used to be but i don't want to wear anything glasses etc i'd rather run around with eyes hurting and not seeing clearly than having glasses or some shit.

  9. There's a thing called contacts mate, that aside if you're having eyesight problems due to needing glasses you'll just further damage your eyes.

  10. I know there's contacts i just didn't know the english word for it was the same+ my english is not that good.
