So technically I've heard about this group for a while and was really interested in the idea, but just never got around to trying it. Until about February of this year when I really read into benefits of quitting masturbation and they resonated with me. I guess I've experienced a numbness during sex that I was embarrassed by, as well as a general demotivater, and as someone who works from home, watching porn was an easy distraction/way to procrastinate work.

It was also a good time for me to try it out as I had been dating a girl non-monogamously for a few months and I was able to have consistent sex (so I suppose I went for medium mode).

At the time I owned a fleshlight which was really unmotivational for me as it honestly felt pretty similar to sex and it made dating feel like too much work, so in beginning my first reboot I made the choice to throw it out. I made it 126 days, and felt great. More confident, more attractive to the opposite sex, happier, I worked harder, and sex almost immediately started feeling much better and more intimate.

Over the course of that time I dated around, and started seeing a second girl. I had never consistently dated / slept with multiple people before and it felt incredible. Not in a- "can't believe I'm getting away with this dirty secret" kind of way, rather that I genuinely care for these two people and they both know that we're not monogamous- this is every guys dream.

Anyway a few days ago, the second girl ended things with me and it did hurt. I understand why she did it- I think she wanted something a little more serious. Nevertheless, that piled on with a few other bad luck acts happening that day really bummed me out, and I ended up letting myself masturbate and justified it by having it just be to my thoughts.

It was definitely way faster and easier than I ever remember it being, which I suppose is a good sign of having broken my addiction, but it was a slippery slope. I think you guys call it the 'chaser effect'. The next day I let myself watch- not porn on a porn site but just sexually explicit videos that did the trick.

At that point I knew it was just going to get worse, so last night I spent about an hour on this site just reading about nofap and peoples experiences, learning about the 'chaser effect' and everything else. I reset my counter and am giving it another go.

Just a note to end on. I'm really proud of what you're all doing here. It's inspirational. And it really does wonders. I told my friends I gave up porn and they're all so beyond addicted it's just not even an option to them. I think porn addiction is a huge problem for guys and it's not talked about enough. You've all inspired me to keep going, I hope my story can inspire others!

Hey otiumiungo! I'm new here too, so it's nice to see another brother committing to a better lifestyle.

Although I have never personally been able to make it for more than two months just by myself, I'm really gonna work hard to stay above the water with NoFap. I agree with you so much about how nobody acknowledges it. It's incredible how rampant it is among guys everywhere, yet nobody ever talks about it. Maybe that's something that needs to be changed in our society if we're ever gonna make any progress, but idk...

I hope that you continue to find value in this page like I do.

Hey RelevantClown! Thanks for the comment. two months is awesome! I think (for myself at least) once you're past the first few weeks it no longer is a habit, just an urge.

Something that really helped me was focusing my attention on working out. I signed up for a few races this summer so if I have a half hour to waste, I might as well go for a run instead! Good luck with everything buddy

Hopefully like you said, i hope i find the right values and can take it to a point where i can start feeling good about myslelf again!

    Hi, Welcome to the forum.
You really take a right step and keep going. There is a bright and glorious life waiting for you.

You could create your own journal on the forum for helping yourself on nofap journey and write down what you experience on the day. This way will have you to have deeper understanding of your strength and weakness. You can write down what you want to share with everyone in the site.
Moreover, I recommend you to read success stories which not only motivate you, but also give you the right direction on the journey. People always say “Experience is the best teacher.” Even it is others’ experience, you still can learn from it.
Here is some information I want to share with you. I believe it will help.

A success story, talking about how he overcome PMO.
A YouTube vid, explaining the science behind addiction.
An article, reading the benefits of nofap.

    Let’s stay strong together. ^^
    All the best.

  10. Hi. Welcome to forum!

Make sure you create a personal journal thread in Reboot Logs section and blog there on a regular basis. As well as just generally be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation. On top of that you had great success and I'm sure will repeat it. So sharing is a great opportunity to provide some inspiration to others as well!

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges and triggers. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain. It is a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body. Check out this Ted talk, it gives a good idea of what's it about when it comes to philosophy. As far as practical side of it there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations to get you started.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!
