    Hey all,

Starting the challenge today, aiming for a week first, then a month. Any words of encouragement?

  2. this will be one of the hardest things you have ever done, stay on your toes! every time you don't give in to your habbit you will be a litle more confident, and by the way don't get upset if you do fail :) :)

    HaliGuy,

Welcome. I've had good streaks intermixed with terrible, repeated failures, like most everyone else here. Here are my recommendations to get you fully educated and suited up for the fight. These will help you a lot to fight the urges and build great streaks for ultimate victory:

    1. Share your story - describe how PMO started and where you are at now with it.
    2. Set up a porn blocker on your computer and all other devices.
    3. Get yourself an accountability partner on this site, and locally if you have a close friend you can safely confide in.
    4. Visit www.yourbrainonporn.com to understand the science of the addiction so you can battle it with wisdom.
    5. Watch The Ted talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSF82AwSDiU
    6. Read posts here daily and update your journal daily - you'll understand others' experiences and how they may relate to you and be immersed in ongoing communication that we'll be daily assets for you while also helping others.
    7. Set realistic goals and add a counter to help you and everyone see your progress - small steps seem very achievable and build confidence - large ones may make you feel like it is useless. I suggest picking one day past your longest streak to date, or less if the longest "seems" unachievable at present.
    8. Ask questions along the way - we're here to help each other. Nobody will judge you here - we're here for ourselves and one another.

Welcome to the team! Let's fight the battle against PMO and make some progress together!

I agree with what Once & 4 all said. I also have done some of the things he mentioned and few others.

Here are a few things that I have been doing since partaking in the ultimate challenge which I believe have helped:

    1. Write on my journal, get a counter, and post/read others' posts on nofap several times per week.

    2. Become more open and honest with friends and family about my addiction.

    3. Have parental blocks on my electronic devices (for me this is but a short term solution but it has helped).

    4. Exercise 6 days a week 20 minutes. For me, I have been running Monday-Saturday and weight lifting intermittently at random.

    5. Eating healthy. I have been tracking my foods and trying to make my diet fit the USDA guidelines.

    6. I have become strict about meditating/praying every morning.

    7. I am checking my bank account every night and making a monthly budget to be better at personal finance.

Look around and find out what those successful are doing and then attempt to emulate them! Porn/Masturbation Addiction is beatable, many have done it and you can as well!
