This thread can be helpful for everyone, as I'm sure I'm not the only one using porn on my phone. Apps like k9 and applock can be disabled easily, so they aren't reliable forms of blocking porn. Has anyone got any suggestions? I know this has probably been discussed a lot, but any help would be much appreciated
This question has been asked for years here. A lot of guys who manage to stay clean on their computers relapse to smart phones. I am not certain what your long term goal is, but, if you are trying to get clean you should do the "hard 90", 90 days of no porn, no PMO, no MO, and avoid hypersexual thoughts or artificial sexual stimulation. Easier said than done, but that is the way to do it. If you are serious about doing that, then rather than finding blockers for that time period, get a dumb phone, one that physically cannot download porn. I know that is difficult for many of us to wrap our heads around, but understand, this is a short term, 90 day, solution for a lifetime of getting better. Not every guy gets clean in 90, but almost everyone gets significantly better in that time.
The problem with that route is that it just isn't practical for most people to do this. Although I'd love to put this phone away for 90 days, when you've got an ongoing contract it isn't feasible to do this unfortunately. That's why I'm looking for ways to lock down any access to porn on my phone
Hi Iggy. Here is just one thread dealing with the problem. http://www.nofap.com/forum/showthre...ck-porn-on-my-Android-phone&highlight=android If you go up to the upper left hand side of this page you will see a search feature. Go to advanced search. Scroll down to "search for" and in the "key word" section type in the word Android. You will get a hit for each and every time a member here mentioned their Android phone, and a lot of those threads discuss the ways to install a blocker. That's a lot of hits and a lot of group wisdom. Peace.
I'm using OpenDns parental filter with my wifi. I also use firefox mobile with addons as URL filter (which filter porn and set in safemode google). I also use mobile image blocker to block image and have only text. All of those tools are easy to remove but as it's an addition it should give time to think before relapsing. Qustudio is also a good filter. I don't think it's easy to bypass. The best would be to root your phone and delete the browser. It's what I did. I reinstalled it as currently I often need it.
Totally agree with that. If having a dumb phone seems to extreme for many, at least deleting the browser will help keeping the temptation to look for porn. Just install other apps for information: like Foursquare to look for restaurants, Wikipedia to look for info, FB, etc. But delete the Browser.
Penag, I am sending this message to you PM as well as posting here. Iggy poses a great question, how do you "root the phone?" I have not heard that phrase before, but many here might benefit by learning to do that. Can you teach us? While a blocker won't keep anyone from accessing porn, and the dopamine high that comes with it, the blockers, like Warrior says, help for those of us who spontaneously and compulsively search for it. So any help you can give would be great. Peace.
Sure. I'm not an expert but I'm going to try to make it simple. When you root your phone, it means you're going to remove all the software barriers that made impossible to modify system files. It means you have to be careful as If you delete something wrong you're phone won't work. You have to only uninstall the app you don't want (browser for instance). http://google.about.com/od/socialtoolsfromgoogle/a/root-android-decision.htm Each phone is different and the method to root is different. On this forum there are a lot of information for each phone on root, methologies, etc : http://forum.xda-developers.com/ Now It seems there are software which seems to enable rooting directly your phone from the usb http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm It should directly install an app named SuperSu (If not, after rooting you can install it yourself from the app store). This app enable apps that require root to work. You can also download root checker which is usefull to see if the rooting process worked. Once your phone is rooted you can use apps as titanium backup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup which will help you to uninstall apps (.apk) that you don't want. Once you're done, you can unroot the phone in the SuperSu app or leave your phone on root. Hope it helps
I use the XDA forums community, it is a pretty big forum full of people that mode their phones, and you can find guides to root almost every imaginable phone. Of course, the more popular your phone is the more support you may find. What modeldo you have?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147852&highlight=root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030282 This guides may help then.
Whoever that dude is, i guess u may have lost the addiction. I hope so. If not, try ajd root your phone, install porn away in it. My phone motorola can't get rooted as I have to unlock bootloader for it. To unlock bootloader I need a code from moto which they will emai me. Im not getting that code. I reached this page by searching for hacks and i found one, which can be easily uninstalled. Its called secure teen parental control. Chalo Tata!
Getting a dumb phone is the best option but unfortunately if you need a smartphone for work (ie. need access to specific apps, documents etc.) this can be extremely difficult. Hide/delete/disable stock browsers if you can and download one with parental filters (I use Norton family app). Delete all apps you don't need that waste time (e.g. news apps, reddit, tumblr etc) because these work in the same way as porn (mini dopamine hits that keep you wanting more and more, then its easy to switch track to porn to get higher hits). Also, disable all notifications except text and calls on your phone. Your phone is a tool: you should be deciding what you want from it - it should not be deciding what it wants from you. The reason I mention disabling notifications is because the more times you have your phone in your hand, the more times you're likely to fuck around aimlessly with it then 'peek' at porn. Keep your phone out of your room at all times, unless you need it for work (i.e. expecting a call/message).Don't take your phone to bed either...I estimate 90% of my relapses were late at night in bed with my phone...my justifications used to be "I'll fap so that I'm tired and can fall asleep".
I know this won't be much of a consolation, but I encourage addicts who use Android to switch over to the iPhone. The iOS makes it much, much easier to block porn. It's absolutely bulletproof and it's built into the OS, so no third-party apps are needed. All you need is an accountability partner to set a restrictions passcode that you don't know, and then the strength of the filtering is pretty customizable.
Something I've been wondering about iOS (I'm an android user who also struggles with blocking P on my phone). Maybe you can help me out here. Putting my actual question in a spoiler, because it has information about possible loopholes with android that people might not want to know about. I sure wish I didn't. Spoiler In Android, one of my biggest issues is that a lot of apps are basically just embedded web browsers. Gmail, Amazon shopping/music apps, Uber, etc. I've had to remove those apps completely from my phone because of their potential for viewing P. What I'm wondering is if iOS parental controls function more like Windows hosts editing or DNS filtering, in that they block all traffic from the blocked domains, whether that traffic is coming through the Safari browser or some other app. Do you know anything about that?
Yep, and I can guarantee you that iOS' filtering blocks porn at the root level. If you use an app with an embedded web browser, your internet access through that browser will also be filtered.
