    Hi. I'm a 15 year old and I started masturbating at ~11. I count myself lucky in the respect that I hadn't really started looking at porn until last year or so. I find it very easy to abstain from porn, and so I'm not concerned with that. However, I find not masturbating almost impossible. I have struggled with it since I started. I want to stop because it makes me feel mentally weak and uncomfortable.

    Tomorrow, I'm starting the challenge. The longest I've gone before was 2.5 weeks. I'm going to be trying cold showers, and when I'm at the computer, I'm going to be using a stress-ball to keep me occupied. Wish me luck & pray for me please!

    you sound very mature for a 15 year old and congratulations for taking the step in sharing.
    goal setting is a great start as well as cold showers! another thing that works well is exercise and talking to someone. exercising gets endorphins in your brain going that can replace/suppress the desire to masturbate.
    Hope you have a good buddy you can call when you start feeling those desires to "talk you off the cliff" like in AAA when someone feels the desire to drink. a good buddy is the best deterrent.
    good luck and get this thing kicked before it grows. four years going may seem like a long time now, however it's really short. beat it down and you will have a much freer life ahead.
    NEVER think you can turn the porno switch on and off at will. it may feel like that now, however i promise you it will sneak up on you and bite into you so hard you will never know what hit you. STAY AWAY FROM IT! there is no good that can come from it. only heartbreak and pain. a good deterrent to pornography is having a good song in your head that when those desires creep up on you, start singing the song (in your head if others are around and you feel uncomfortable) and it is amazing how that song can replace the destructive scene playing in your mind.
    have a wonderful life. you WILL be in my prayers :)

    Hi Nathan.
    I would like to congratulate you on finding this site at 15. You are very lucky.
    Now that you have found out about NoFap and have read up on all the negative effects of PMO, I trust that you will not stay in it for too long.
    I wish you all the best in your NoFap journey and I hope you get rid of it ASAP. Good luck,

    Thanks.

    @FDB

    Exercise certainly helps. I've learned this before. It's the easiest way to get away from a situation, and it puts you outside in public so you can't try anything sneaky.

    Another thing I have done recently is install a porn filter with a password. The password is ~200 characters long and is a pain in the butt to type up, so much so that if I do every find myself wanting to look at things I shouldn't, it's not my weak willpower that's stopping me, it's bordom, and bordom is far stronger than my desire to look at porn.

    @NFA

    I definitely count myself lucky for at least realising the negative effects this early.

    Nathan,

    Again, you are beyond your years.

    Your reply made me smile. "...and it puts you outside in public so you can't try anything sneaky." I love it!

    The password idea (200 characters) is pure genius! A lot of people have tried a password yet gave in and used it. The 200 idea could become so frustrating trying to enter it with sweaty palms you would forget what it was you were after!

    Boredom is the entrance to getting into trouble. If we keep ourselves busy in good endeavors we won't have time to do the things that bring us down and cause us to trip up.

    When temptation comes, remember the advise they give on the crazy rides at Disneyland "Keep your arms and legs in the ride at all times and your hands above your waist." OK. I added the last part. That advise does help however.

    You are a smart and awesome young man. You WILL succeed! :)

    Yup. Bordom is such a powerful negative emotion, you will do anything to avoid getting into it (why the password works) and do anything to get out of it (naughty, naughty.)

    I certainly hope I succeed. So far I have come into less temptations, though after the 3rd day I find things get real difficult. The stress ball really helps, and I would recommend it to anyone. Just keep squeezing it until you get less excited.

    Nathan,

    Glad you are progressing "just squeezing" the ol' ball.

    If things start feeling unbeatable put yourself in a situation where you can't "do it" like a mall, library, family room, kitchen, fast-food joint, ANY place that you aren't alone like YOU described early "so you can't try anything sneaky."

    Also, we are here for you as well if/when you need support. If you haven't found it already, there is a support group for guys about your age where you can make contact and get "talked down from the ledge" when needed.

    YOU are so awesome and a child of God. Don't let the evil one EVER make you think for a second you are any less.

    Hang in there buddy. We are all praying and rooting for your success. Day by day. Peace by Piece ;)
