I have always been told that when boys and men start looking at porn, it makes them more misogynistic because of the kinds of things they see in the videos. But then today I read in an article* that this is a myth, and that those addicted to porn tend to be more egalitarian.

Does anyone have any legitimate scientific studies or anecdotal evidence confirming or denying this? I’m wondering because I had a friend who I know was addicted to porn on some level, and he became a rapist. I don’t know how related those two are, but I wonder if it played some role in pushing him in that direction.

No not at all. Doing that would be excusing him. He wanted something that someone wouldn’t give him, so he took it by force. No one and nothing can make you do that. It’s a choice that he made, and the blame rests squarely on his shoulders. I was only wondering if this might’ve made that choice easier for him.
Well I’m a bit sad to hear it’s gone on so long, but I’m glad to hear it doesn’t do that in your experience.

Considering the amount of people loving femdom, I don’t think there is that much misogyny

Exactly, it's misandry if anything because the men are exploited from women that do findom.

That’s a good point. I suppose there is a bit of a female empowerment component in some porn. It certainly classes with the typical “women need to stay chaste until marriage” shit we hear from christians.

Yeah findom is straight up exploitation. I mean, I guess they’re consenting to it, but it could potentially be very harmful to an individual if they have all their wealth drained.

Masochism makes you believe that you're worthless (without realizing it) because repeatedly watching femdom porn alters the brain. I think more laws are needed to protect people with behavioural addictions from being exploited. Personally I think it should be illegal to exploit people with behavioural addictions.

But then what would corporate America be built off of?;) But yeah, I agree that people shouldn’t be exploited that way. I’d say porn in general is enough of a problem in society that it should be illegal. Or at the very least strictly regulated to keep minors from getting ahold of it.

Idk if masochism in and of itself makes people feel they are worthless. I think that has more to do with porn and sexual addiction as opposed to the actual contents. But I’m no psychologist.

It's weird how the brain works. Men into femdom porn would probably feel regret but not feel mental damage because they have low serotonin. I think femdom addiction might be the only behavioural addiction that can cause mental damage once you've got out of the addiction. And yes it's shocking that it's so easy for underage boys to access femdom porn.

Just read the low serotonin section. Negative, nervous, worried, anxious, lacking confidence, lacking self-esteem. That basically describes me. Somebody must’ve been reading my diary.

I’d say most addictions can cause mental damage well after people have gotten out of them. Maybe not as much lighter addictions like gaming or the internet, but certainly things like booze, pot, and all manner of porn. It depends on the individual and the seriousness of the addiction though.

I’d think femdom addictions would make men, and especially boys, feel alienated from women, due to the way it presents them. By nature, the men and women in these videos are made out to be as different as can be. It’d particularly be a problem if they already had problems relating to and interacting with the women in their lives.

I’ve been addicted for most of my life and I’m not misogynistic. But I do think it changes the way you look at people especially women. It’s just bad juju no matter how you slice it.

There's a thread in my profile with a method that I've found works really well for anxiety and depression.

Actually, porn is good juju. It doesn’t cause any damage or addiction, and it is definitely a part of healthy sexuality. Kinda like how Tide Pods make for a healthy afternoon snack. Some people just don’t understand what makes for a healthy lifestyle.

Jk obviously. I agree it changes how you view women. I also believe it can damage self esteem and create a sense of inferiority and inadequacy.

    Thanks! I’ll check it out.

This is why I can’t stand people like Gail Dines. They leave out half the picture, probably because they have a personal agenda.

Everyone has a personal agenda. You just have to look close enough to see it. I’m glad she’s advocating against porn, but sexual violence is caused by very different things in my experience. A complete lack of empathy to name one.
