I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've argued with people about the utter uselessness of the "Are you over 18?" popup thing. As of right now, that's all they're required to do in order to avoid being accused of providing porn to an underage person.

There is an age verification system that is sometimes used for people posting content to those kinds of sites. It requires the poster to provide a photo of themselves holding a photo ID that includes their name and date of birth. I believe this should be extended to being required to access those kinds of sites at all.

Obviously, it's not guaranteed to be effective, but it'd be a hell of a lot better than a simple popup.

 

JFL if you actually think some online petition has even a 1% chance of getting the largest porn site in the world shut down or even changing anything about the way it's run. All you're really doing is spending time and energy focusing on a website you've sworn off going to and don't want to visit anymore. Even if it did get shut down for some reason, people would just go to other sites. There's videos of child abuse and other terrible things that have been uploaded to youtube and stayed there for a long time, should we start a petition to shut down YouTube too?

I, for one thing, don't defend it, but I also don't support shutting it down because there are no grounds for shutting it down.

I agree with you.

I signed the petition. I don't know how effective it will be or whether it will work or not but it's better to do something than nothing. Maybe my act would be pointless. Maybe, even if PH is shut down, there won't be any difference. But I can't just stand and watch. Maybe YouTube does have videos of child abuse. But it definitely doesn't promote it. Besides, most offensive videos on YouTube are taken down and inappropriate ones are age-restricted. PH doesn't have such restrictions. And PH certainly didn't take down those videos (if it did, then it didn't do it in time). So PH should be shut down. I don't know if it will but I certainly hope so. And it's not just PH. The industry itself isn't very humane. There is an article on a website called https://fightthenewdrug.org in which ex-pornstars recall incidents.

And there is no such thing as responsible use of porn. Using porn responsibly is like sniffing coke responsibly. Absurd. (although coke is more addictive)
