After how long can we consider ourselves "cured" ?

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Golden-Rose, Jun 19, 2015.

  1. When can we say that we have successfully overcome the addiction ?

Personally, it's been a while since I've relapsed but still suffering deeply from very strong urges - they haven't decreased at all - and I wonder if they'll ever go away ..

Please don't take this as a pessimistic answer to your question, but in some respect the answer is never. The temptations will die down substantially, but in my experience they never go away completely. I think rather than saying we are "cured" we should think about it as being healed and prepared. Healed in the sense that we no longer feel pain for what we did in the past. Prepared in the sense that we know how to overcome temptation when it comes again. I have found this website to be a huge help toward being prepared. I haven't PMOd for about 130 days now. I read the threads frequently though because they remind me why I want to overcome this, and how to do it.

How long have you gone without PMO so far? You will most likely experience very strong urges in the first few weeks. Hang in there!

By the way, Gary Wilson the porn addiction guru, has stated that it takes about 7-9 months for adolescents to reboot, however there is no specific time limit on the reboot period.
