Porn/edging as self-med for low testosterone

Supplements that increase testosterone make me feel more hopeful and energized.

The same is true of edging (within reason); I feel more hopeful and energized.

Edging without an orgasm may or may not increase testosterone temporarily for several hours.

So I wonder if aging men (like me) might unknowingly resort to porn and edging as a self-medication for low testosterone?

Do yo believe it increases testosterone?
Why yo say you have low testosterone were your low T levels check in an exam?

I haven't seen a single medical study in edging increasing testosterone. If you want to know if it works for you you can do the test, take a testosterone lab test now, do some edging for a couple of months and take the test back and see if edging increases your basal testosterone.
You could do the opposite no edging for some months and see if your testosterone increases.

The only thing that could increase testosterone if you have medical diagnosis of low T is hormone replacement therapy.

Interested in hearing about your thoughts on edging and testosterone and everything edging creates in you, it's very interesting.

Nonetheless if edging does something in testosterone I will say it can increase it for the time you are edging and some hours after but the thing is edging also causes an increase in cortisol levels which suppress testosterone production. So the effect gets nullified.

Even do is just thinking out loud and thinking of what we now about edging and hormonal response, I have not seen a study in edging and testosterone in humans.

Pretty sure it actually decreases T. Or as the prior poster said, at minimum it increases cortisol which in a man is effectively the same as increasing estrogen. I used to do pretty serious edging sessions to P and/or P subs, a couple times a week and sometimes going for hours, and my hormone profile got seriously out of whack with the corresponding increase in belly fat, man boobs etc. There are a number of "natural" methods I could recommend for men who believe they're low on T but edging is definitely not one of them.

It would lower testosterone, since edging is causing the dopamine and adrenals to rush. This raises cortisol and would actually deplete testosterone. Does edging recharge or deplete...exactly.

I do not think looking at porn or edging has a long-term effect, but I think it might have a short term effect such as 12 hours or so. I believe this is why when I search the internet for opinions there is no consensus. A study that is looking for a long term increase in testosterone will probably not measure one, but a study that is looking for a short term increase might. There are also different definitions of what constitutes edging. When I edge I do not touch my penis and I stare at porn for hours and stop the session without ejaculating. If I limit the session to a couple of hours then I definitely feel more hopeful and energized for the remainder of the day. This is one reason I have not been enthusiastic about the strategy of cold turkey abstinence advocated on this forum.

My sister is a doctor and she ordered a test kit for neurotransmitters, hormones, cortisol, etc. I have assumed that I might have adrenal fatigue, but my recent discovery that testosterone-boosting supplement improve my mood and energy has made me wonder if the problem is low testosterone. Of course all those things are interconnected. Hopefully the test kit will be accurate. I worry about the fluctuations in these hormones and neurotransmitters and the possibility that the test kit will be misleading if I am not careful.

A person with a porn addiction would not normally think he has low testosterone. It would seem to be the opposite - that the testosterone is too high. However, what if the porn addiction is self medication for the low testosterone? This would explain why people in their 40s and 50s (like me) often experience worse addiction to porn than when we were younger. (Of course the other possibilities are that porn has become more abundant and potent or that the addiction naturally becomes worse as the years pass. I know that alcoholism typically gets worse over the years. A friend told me that the addiction evolves and gets worse even while a person abstains from alcohol.)

When you lack of a better word activate sexually your expressing the testosterone and other sex hormones .... it stimulated them sure but it's not like you jump 500 points it's just sexual energy channeled in a sexual way .....

If your fapping to porn a lot it's a sign testosterone is normal ..... it fapping all the time will desensitize the dopamine reward centres.... which you actually need to experience arousal in the first place ..... there's alot more going on that just testosterone .... bit porn addiction will definitely deplete dopamine or desensitize you to the visual stimulus that raises it .

Edging pmo addiction it's all the same .... it's a compulsion ... because of the increase in dopamine amongst normal to high testosterone levels low t you probably get by without ever wanting to pmo .... again not necessarily...... you can have high t but porn is the easy trigger .

I always question new terms and words to describe problem behavior, they can be prone to stigmatizing others.

Good activities can supplant unhealthy, anti-social and unproductive ones.

As for supplements for health or empowerment; a quality multi is probably good. There are a lot of strengthening herbs, herbal teas, etc. as well as whole foods and healing modalities. Some high end essential oils diluted (organic lavender, etc.) can as applied to temples, bottom of feet, solar plexus, even scrotum can help recharge the system somewhat. A change of scenery can help gain new perspectives, tough during the pandemic. Herbs or pills with caffeine, ephedra, etc. are too stimulating. Those addicted to screens need to limit their exposure, read books, exercise and use other positive activities.

I found this study of sexual stimuli in stallions. And they increased testosterone but the effect was lost because of the increase in cortisol Screenshot_20210404_114620.jpg

Your mention of an increase in cortisol makes me wonder if this might be why I feel better psychologically after edging without an ejaculation. I have many of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue such as salt cravings. I will know on that after I complete my test kit, because it measures cortisol at 4 different times in a day.

Well, I had my T checked this summer and was pretty disappointed to find out it was still in the low 300s... very low, and virtually unchanged from 2 yrs ago despite many lifestyle and diet changes. The good news is that the amount of T in my body that is actually being utilized has gone up significantly. My doc said at my age I probably won't ever get much above the numbers I have now but that everything I'm doing will help it from dropping lower so I guess that's all I can hope for. He wouldn't approve me for T injections and I'm not sure I'd want them if he did. So the short answer is my hormonal profile has improved in a manner of speaking and some benefits have come (a much better mental and emotional outlook, some improvements in physique), while others (female attraction etc) haven't really happened at all.

I'm the exact same. Low 300 and sometimes lower, despite a very healthy lifestyle and smart supplementation and pretty much optimal diet. No alcohol, drugs or smoking. Still my levels haven't budged (actually decreased).

I also struggle with long edging sessions. That's usually what I've been addicted to.
Have you been able to quit or are you still working on it?

I'm asking because I have a hypothesis that since Dopamine trigger the release of LH and FSH hormones that in turn trigger Testosterone production, resensitizing the receptors in the pituitary gland (by quitting PMO) might help raise our levels.

    Also, what age are you?
