How do YOU control the chaser effect?

  1. I’ve come upon the chaser effect the last month. I didn’t know it was a thing. Because I’m just learning about it , I need to control it better. How do you manage the chaser effect? Any advice on how to overcome the chaser effect...

    Same thing happened to me. Meditation really helps. This morning I got up super aroused and had a big urge. I meditated in my bed and after like 5 or 6 minutes urge was gone. I felt lighter and it did help. I think also you have to ask God for help.

    I will recite the Hail Mary prayer when the urge strikes me. It always works. I notice that when I did not recite the Prayer, I will be lost to these temptations.

    Yesterday I celebrated my first month of being porn and masturbation-free, I took a trip out of town with my spouse of 20 years who discovered my porn use and caused a Major Crisis.

    Two nights ago, and again yesterday morning, was surprised by having wonderful sex along with all the conversation that happened over the weekend.

    Last night and again this morning I am aware of the chaser effect, and that knowledge is my most powerful weapon; because I have tools at-the-ready. Accountability partners I keep in touch with, morning posts on this site, listening to my daily dose of Porn Free Radio, daily journaling and daily reading recovery literature (starting the AA Big Book today), keeping my mind and thoughts focused on the work ahead.

    Although my body is 'tugging' me toward wanting another orgasm, I recognize it for what it is: the biology dictating a feeling, and I have a clear choice to make. Perhaps easier for me to understand that this addiction to porn is not Primarily a problem of biology. (Disclaimer: I read YBOP and while it is interesting it is not very helpful for addiction IMHO.) Porn addiction is Primarily a problem of emotions, of psychology, of underlying needs that porn and masturbation and orgasm fulfills.

    OP do you have any tools in place?

  5. my only tools that I have been using so far is Getting outside, I know it’s been a struggle & I sometimes lose. But when I do win, I tell myself to get up & get outside, which has worked or get up and walk around. I’m still trying to get the mental aspect of it how I can fortify myself mentally

    As many masculine and badass things as possible/grin and bare it. I usually have the fortitude to stave it off before it goes away
