    Hi,

I am relatively new to NoFap and wanted to ask what the limits are for recovery. I have not watched porn for a few months now but have on occasion fapped to my imagination or met up with a girl.

In order for me to heal (10+ year addict) does fapping to my imagination (only like once a month) or meeting with girls harm my recovery? if not then does it have any impact at on me at all?

Is it the occasional fapping (ejaculation) itself that is harmful or is it because of the frequency with which I used to fap? apologies if this sounds a little muddy but I am just trying to figure out what I can do because sometimes it is extremely difficult to ignore the urges.

    Thank you all in advance.

  2. Welcome. In the last sentence, if you mean if it's the frequency of fapping during a P only streak (what we'd call your "mode" since you have abstained from porn for a few months) vs. your 10+ year history, I would say the two are related - it's just a question of how closely related they are. What I always point out is when you fantasize, it's probably something you learned from previous porn watching rather than something really wholesome and innocent like a kid that just hit puberty comes up with by him/herself with no influence from any media messaging whatsoever. With certain elements of mainstream culture there is a degree of porn influence, and you'll read about people mentioning porn substitutes or p-Sub.

So you can do whatever parameter for a streak you want, but I would just point out it's a totally different question to have thorough sexual sobriety since sobriety is about a clear state of mind.

since you havent watched porn in few months, it seems your addiction is getting in control. Honestly I dont think fapping once in a month, using your imagination is wrong in anyway. Of course, the best will be if you do not masturbate at all and use that energy to find another girl.

Cant you have a fuck buddy for occasions like these?

Isn't it only a problem if you feel it's a problem? it doesn't sound like you have a physiological/addcitive problem.

You seem to be really in control of things. The fact that you're questioning things in the way you are kind of suggests to me that it's not that big of an issue for you. That maybe the only issue is that being generated by your thoughts and concerns because of past negative experiences with PMO. That, to me, seems sensible cautious thinking because you know the potential dangers.

The reality is, masturbation is a natural and healthy sexual outlet when done in moderation, even for people who have had problems with compulsive masturbation, but it is important to prove to yourself that you can go for extended periods of time without acting out, and then support that achievement by managing sustained periods of effective sexual self-control, and that will take time, practice and discipline, but it seems you have been achieving this, no?

It seems you've done really well in doing that. You're making a great effort to seriously consider the risks of sexually pleasing yourself, which seems really healthy to me.

I say keep listening to your better self.
