About 3 years ago was the first time I discovered porn and I quickly became addicted. I would watch porn for hours each night and on average get about 2-3 hours of sleep. A year later, so 2 years ago, I realized how detrimental this was and flat out quit. However, I started reading erotic stories each night instead and continue to this day. When I read the stories I don't feel the same addiction as to porn, but I was looking through your website and saw that it was mentioned that Erotic Stories are Porn. I just want to make sure that I did not exchange one mental addiction for another. As I said erotic stories don't make my body feel that same need as Porn, but I want to make sure there are no negative effects it's having on my brain that I am unaware. Thoughts?

    Thanks

I went to erotic stories and it increased my need for porn. If you're getting aroused by it and flapping I think it's still porn. Just watch out, it might not feel like the same thing but it can still escalate

To me its the same, for the above reason. My NoFap journey didnt truly become rewarding until I quit all forms of M including M to erotica or even just thoughts of P/other women.

SAA (Sex Addicts Anonymous) has something called the Three Circles, where you define for yourself what sexual sobriety is for you.

Thus for me, masturbation is in my Inner Circle, as I cannot masturbate unless driven by fantasy or memory of porn scenes.

Yet there are others who don’t need fantasy to masturbate, and it isn’t part of their addictive cycle.

You can see how this would apply to erotica. You don’t mention connection to masturbation, so there’s that too.
