Addictions are actually more enjoyable the less you do them.

Another big problem when it comes to trying to get over an addiction, it is actually much more enjoyable the less you do it.

I have found this with PMO and alcohol. Don't PMO for weeks, a month etc then PMO, boom it's a complete and utter explosion of pleasure and enjoyment. Don't drink alcohol for a few weeks, month and then drink it is much more enjoyable.

But drink regularly and it is no where near as enjoyable, PMO regularly and it is no where near as enjoyable.

It clearly comes down to sensitization and desensitization.

We want to be more sensitized, sensitization is healing. But sensitization can actually cause us big problems. Because like I said if you end up on PMO again when you're much more sensitized it will be like an explosion of pleasure and enjoyment.

It's crazy. The thing we want to happen, becoming more sensitized, this can actually also cause us to return to our addiction. Because the pleasure and enjoyment massively goes up the more sensitized we are.

  2. An addiction is never enjoyable; the substances or actions that are being abused can sometimes have temporary enjoyable effects but they don't exist on their own and there's always the other side there as well. It's right that abstaining leads to greater sensitivity though, and this in itself can be a problem. Sometimes, I've even noticed urinating feeling pleasurable from around 18-20 days. I've often found myself asking myself 'why on earth would I want to give this up' at times after a reset before I come back down and realise exactly why again.

Yeah I think the pleasure from it doesn't last long until you quickly feel the pain and misery from it again.

  4. That's interesting actually. You're post is absolutely correct about sensitivity and how it feels amazing 'going back' after a time of reboot (I've noticed that many times myself) but I wonder if actually the shame/negativity is worse as well on the other side. Never actually thought about it at the time.

  5. In the case of the pmo, and after that great pleasure, well after the act, how do you sit? It is worth it?

I would never say it's worth it really. The enjoyment and pleasure is very short lived.

But if I have one slip, or even PMOing a handful of times in a day, even sometimes a binge in one day, these days I can't really say I notice much negative effects from doing this once in a while. But there has been times the edging and binging has been heavier, and I have noticed some of those negative mental effects returning. So worsening of depression, agitation, tiredness, headaches, brain fog etc. I don't usually get these symptoms much or that severely these days. But a few weeks ago I did heavily edge and binge for a day and I did experience a lot of these symptoms for a few days afterwards. So this wasn't pleasant.

But again these days if I end up on it once in a while, and it is not that heavy, I can't really say I notice much negative effects from it.

But I wouldn't say I am someone who has the best mental health as it is anyway. I believe I have these issues even without PMO though. But who knows, maybe if I managed to cut PMO out my life completely for long enough I would maybe see an even bigger improvement in my mental health.
