From my own experience it can cause the worst mental health problems imaginable depending on what your usage of PMO has been like and for how long. So if you have chronically edged and binged on PMO on a daily basis, and this has been your behavior for a long time. I don't even know if it would take that long to develop quite severe mental health issues if you're chronically edging and binging on a daily basis. Not all people use PMO the same way. But what I am describing is someone who edges, flicks about tons of different content while masturbating, and does this for hours before they eventually ejaculate, and this sort of behavior going on multiple times a day, everyday, or nearly everyday. This behavior is sky rocketing dopamine and other chemicals in the brain. So is it any wonder someone develops severe mental health problems when they frequently do this to them self for long enough? The other problem is once you have been doing this sort of behavior for long enough, it is actually difficult to reverse these brain changes.
I’ve hit this at least once in better detail, but the short treatment is ADHD is a dopamine deficiency and PMO is a dopamine overload. Bottom line, since both deal with irregular dopamine supply, it makes sense PMO could exacerbate ADHD (diagnosed or not), or artificially produce ADHD symptoms in an otherwise typical brain. Given that ADHD minds are more prone to addiction in the first place, I think it’s a good possibility your excessive masturbation is causing exacerbation.
Hi, I can only talk about my own experience here. I am an introverted type and do not experienc adhd-like symptons. However, concentraction issues are there, especially when combining alcohol and porn. For me it seems, that porn addiction is embedded inside the comfort zone of your brain, thus you even resist dwelling in the "usual" comfort zone. After some time, it returns to normal, so it's not a constant issue.
Yes, it does. Not everyone experiences it but perhaps if you've been a bit of a heavy user you have a higher chance of experiencing it (then again, everybody is different, what's heavy for you must be "light" use for someone else). The correct term for it is desensitization. Severe form of porn induced desensitization leads to such symptoms, causes by downregulation of dopamine receptors in the reward circuitry (responsible for motivation and learning) and reduction of grey matter in the pre-frontal cortex (responsible for executive functions such as rational thought, planning, focus, working memory, impulse control etc) i.e Hypofrontality. Desensitization in the reward circuitry leads to difficulty in feel motivated, fatigue, long term memory issues while Hypofrontality causes inability to stay in the moment, unable to focus and concentrate on a task, poor short term memory, poor impulse control). Please search for the terms Desensitization, Hypofrontality (especially this) , there is also a Dr. Trish Leigh video on YT called Porn Induced ADHD
Bro this is scary are the amount of damage I’ve done because I can relate to all those symptoms going on are these damages reversible? Or is it too late for me I’ve been using porn for at least over a decade I’m talking heavy usage
Dopamine is a very short acting neurotransmitter. For me, the lifestyle effects usually start evening out after 2 weeks, and I'm basically good at 60 days. You can treat ADHD with meds, and it's basically an instant reversal of symptoms for 24 hours. For a day, it's like you don't even have ADHD. Then you have to take it again. Some people don't notice a difference in themselves, but their partner notices almost immediately. Quit P. Which is easy to say, it's like, "Climb that mountain. In three hours. Naked." But quit P and you should be fine.
Adult onset of ADHD is NOT A THING. What you're facing is just some symptoms as a result of PMO's impact on your brain and it will get fixed if you quit PMO, it may take some time, but in a few months 3-6 months it should go away. Sleeping-waking on time, meditation x2 times a day are few things that help. You can try dopamine fasting if you want but quitting PMO for a long time is the only way. I'm in the same boat you are ...been living (more like existing) with these symptoms for a decade because i've failed to quit PMO..i intend to change that..
